You are arguing against straw men. I don't think anyone is making the argument that "White privilege exists, therefore people of colour should simply not try to make anything of themselves". We are saying "White privilege exists, these are its manifestations, and it must be taken into account as a variable in the reality of the lives of minorities".

I can't speak for anybody, but what I'm saying is: People around the world have been socialised to have a broad preference for whiteness, sometimes even overriding their own personal identities. This translates into how they view and concurrently how they treat individuals who fall on the area of the colour scale which is not unambiguously white.

I am totally willing to present you with literature and studies to that effect, but seeing as this point is generally not disputed within relevant fields, I think that would be a waste of both our time. in fact, many people in countries that are not both Western and developed(ie: people in Asia and Latin America) will tell you quite bluntly and unashamedly that either their ethnicity or whiteness are non-negotiable. How many non-White telenovela stars are there? Who makes up the dominant cultural class of Brazil? Argentina up until recently had an explicit policy of allowing only White European immigrants even above non-White Latin American immigrants. Japan and South Korea devour Western culture as they express open xenophobia towards each other.

Quote:
Speaking of super majorities; in this country and on the planet it's been women, yet somehow they've been so terribly polite about respecting rights it came at their own detriment. The fact that blacks are recognized as having rights in this country meant millions of people had to agree, insist it be so, and abide the spirit of the constitution. The very suggestion that the collective majority of Americans should be lumped into an amorphous blob of 'white privilege' is absurd. Who are you (core identity) when you lose your addiction to an enemy as a life long crutch? You decide who you are by your actions, not I.
The part in bold is not necessarily true as most segregation laws were struck down by the Judiciary and not by popular will. The part under that sets up a false dichitomy. In order to participate in or benefit from White privilege, one does not have to harbour any open or subconscious animosity towards anyone. Nor does one even have to be cognisant of the idea at all. Saying that White privilege exists is no more an indictment of White people than saying that able privilege exists is an indictment of the able bodied.

I can't fathom how us saying that White people are received better in a predominantly White society somehow strikes you as either controversial or counter intuitive.

It's way too much if you live by yourself in a cave as a hermit, or if you're in your mom's basement without a family. All I know is, $25 an hour is barely middle class where I come from.
By the way? EVERYONE that works a job is a wage slave. Even if you "work for yourself"--because no one works "for themselves". You work for your clientele. If you don't make them happy, they take their business elsewhere.

I guess this just proves that a number of people, mostly white, who continue to benefit from the propogation of white privilege, under the guise of white supremacy, will never get it. But then again, that's what privilege is -- not having to get it.

Unfortunate.

+ or - is a black man. Have some understanding. You don't walk in a black man's shoes every day. You walk in white blond man shoes every day. There are no wide-spread negative stereotypes and beliefs about white blond men. Thanks.

Whatever. Time to blame someone else. Dosen't look too good if you keep blaming other people for anything.

Hoarfrost is absolutely 100% correct in his assertions about the privilege whiteness holds in foreign countries. I lived in Japan for two years, and can attest, that yes, whites are treated exceptionally well and viewed as "superior". In fact, Japanese women will compete fiercely for the few "westerners" who grace their shores -- even the butt ugly ones. I never understood that.

Anyway, it's really weird and really disturbing. Not only do whites seemingly control the world but somehow have brainwashed foreign entities into buying into white supremacist ideals.

There you go. And now read your own post again. From the beginning to the end. You gotta be kidding me.
That sounds pretty racist to me, actually.
