White privilege is when you can attend four different colleges in six years like Sarah Palin did, and people still think you are smart enough to hold office.
I know someone who attended 5 colleges in 4 years and is far more intelligent than anyone I know. They spent 4 semesters abroad at 4 different universities before returning to the states for their last 2 years, one at a state institute and their final at Clemson.
When I am finished I will have attended 4 different colleges during my 5 year program through our study abroad program.
He doesn't, generally. But then again, when they grow older the poor kid from Appalachia and the black kid from Beverly Hills are not likely to be competing for the same jobs, the same bank loans, or trying to live in the same neighborhoods either.
The real question is, what advantage does a poor white kid from Appalachia have over a poor black kid from Appalachia? If you'd deny that privilege would afforded to the white kid (especially in that part of the country), I'd say you're just delusional.
By the way, the white Appalachian kid might have privilege over the black kid in certain situations. Say, the black kid just got back from a workout and was dressed poorly as he shopped on Rodeo Drive. While, the white kid, wanting to make an impression, wore a suit.

I think you're just grasping now. In reality, the two wouldn't even have the same opportunities to begin with.
Turn the situation around: say the two were on Rodeo drive, the black kid in a suit and the white kid in sweats. The white kid would get the suspicious stares because he's dressed like a "grub".
BTW, in nearby Detroit, whites get targeted and pulled over in certain parts of the city all of the time, yet no one is crying racism over that.
So black people are allowed to treat whites like crap because they are not the dominant group in america? Seriously, give it a rest because as a white male, engaged to a black female and who has two adopted black children, I can tell you some stories about how I have been attacked for simply being white and 'in the wrong neighborhood" with her.
Sociology means nothing from 500 years ago.. If you use what happened to your family 10 generations ago as an excuse for failure or as if this gives you permission to treat whites to 'get even", then you indeed need to re-examine your own failures and have no one else to blame but yourself.

That is a bit different than 4 colleges in 6 years...to get a 4 year degree in the same country.
Most white people have no idea of how many "perks" they have been given, just based on their skin color.
And black people have no idea how racist they appear when making such assumptions..
I sit at home and work 15 hours a day. No one I do business with has a dam clue what race I am.. None.. I can tell you that I have never once met any of my bankers, brokers, agents, nor have I met many of my own tenants in years.
I could be cambodian, hispanic, from latin america, chinese, jewish, or even black and my business would be just like it is..
White privilege means that you do not have to undergo the "scruntiny" that a person of color does.
I remember several years ago that I was going to visit a friend and saw a cottage-style house for rent on her street so I stopped to inquire - the owners were on-site moving things out. I was quickly told that it was already rented even though the For Rent sign was clearly still in the yard.
I told my friend (White) about what happened so we decided to have her inquire after waiting for about 30 minutes or so. She was told that the place was still available and that it would be ready in about a week. Then, I walked up while they were still talking and she introduced me as her friend. At which point these people had a stunned look on their faces. And I asked, "But I thought that you said it was already rented?" No real answer was given.
I agree with Frankie117 that the article linked in this thread has nothing to do with "white privilege" but has everything to do with a bunch of smug and rich children stealing from internationally known celebrities. People have breakups everyday, but only those of stars are portrayed in weekly magazines, for instance.
I didn't see any sympathetic or apologetic tone towards the rotten kids. I just read a sense of horror that kids of money would be so rotten.

I can't tell YOU how many times I've been in "rich" white areas and received hostile stares from whites, as if to let me know I don't belong there.
See, the difference between you and I, is that you, as a white male, don't HAVE to go predominately black areas. Afterall, black areas are largely poorand not the center of business activity in most metropolitan areas.
Heavily white areas, which tend to have higher incomes, often are. So, blacks often HAVE to go into areas which are predominately white in day-to-day business dealings, whereas whites DO NOT have to go into predominately black areas.
And tell me how, blacks, who collectively make up 12% of the population, can "treat whites like crap". Sure, they can beat you up, but blacks have neither the economic or political power to hinder or oppress any white person the way whites systematically hindered and oppressed blacks.
This is because whites are the majority and control the majority of wealth, power, and influence in this country.

There is a big difference between someone calling you a h****y walking down the street and not being taken seriously as a Hispanic or Black person walking into a meeting room.
