WASHINGTON — Lawmakers who say the military has kicked out 58 Arabic linguists because they were gay want the Pentagon to explain how it can afford to let the valuable language specialists go.
Seizing on the latest discharges, involving three specialists, members of the House of Representatives wrote the House Armed Services Committee chairman that the continued loss of such "capable, highly skilled Arabic linguists continues to compromise our national security during time of war."
I just read an article on how the religious conservative movement or bloc has influenced the government and politics. It was suggesting that centrist, progressive religious folks aren't given or taking a place on the stage.
This is a clear indication that there is no end to what self-righteousness can bring to or deny common sense.
We have so few linguists, and very few who can read, write and speak Arabic.

This is something else to protest.
You'd think they would take a little break from that stupid law and actually give our troops all the resources it needs.
I heard about this on The BBC, and the way that they caught the guys is they were screening everything they typed on their computers, and found "love letters" to their same-sex partners! Go Big Brother!
Since these guys were working on [likely] classified info, I understand the need for a little more peeking vs. a secretary in Des Moines. That doesn't mean you turn it into a fishing expedition for more stuff. This CLEARLY violates the "don't ask, don't tell" policy since the "love e-mails" were done in private.
These actions are turning the "don't ask don't tell" policy into that stupid religious right perspective of "you're not evil because are a homosexual... it's because you "engage in homosexual acts". If they had their way I think that it would eventually evolve into "you're not "with the terrorists" because you are a Democrat... it's only because you VOTE for Democrats"

Agreed.
These are the same folks that scream support the troops but are willing jepordize the military and American lives for an archaic law.
When I say the religious conservative movement will be our demise, I mean it literally.
And I believe just as strongly that the left-wing liberals will be!
