Interesting to note, the DA at the time was one William Delahunt, now the Congressman (D-Mass) from the 10th district in MA. The same day as the shooting the Boston Globe noted Delahunt may not seek re-election.
I'd guess now he definitely won't seek re-election. His role in brooming the case is bound to be investigated.
