It is commonplace for liberals and leftists to avoid refuting conservative arguments and just dismiss the conservative with one of seven epithets: "Racist," "Bigoted," "Sexist," "Intolerant," and the three phobias: "Homophobic," Xenophobic," "Islamaphobic."
When I read this, I realized I was bound for the leftist hell in a handbasket, as I fit the bill for every single one according to their definition...
Those supposedly on left and those supposedly on right bash each other like taunting kids on a playground with these sorts of slurs.
As a 30 something American, the change I hope to see in my life in this country is more civil dialogue and debate that gets into the grit of brainstorming solutions- not hunkering down in namecalling and making enemies out of fellow citizens.
No matter where you are on the political spectrum, do you want to see your society thrive and know that your neighbors and neighbors neighbors are doing well or rather glean some perverse satisfaction in airing criticism left and right and dogging people for their party choice?
I've been debating Politics as far back as I can remember, and I loved it. I made lots of friends and learned a ton. I've oftentimes argued against my own beliefs to learn more and explore where my mind didn't want to go on its own.
I am met with seething hate, name calling and senseless accusations.
Plus, many of the people getting out to argue have even the basic understanding of what government we have and the roles and responsibility of the offices held. How did THAT happen?
It's almost as though they misunderstand the purpose of debate. It's to learn, find common ground and explore. It's all ideology and philosophy..no one really is 100% correct on the proposed solutions. Many believe that being best name caller and playground bully is proof they are smarter....
There's even insults and assumptions over editorial commentary, entertainers and newscasters!!! I can't even go anywhere in a conversation with that. It's nonsense. It's like arguing over whether Brad should get back with Jennifer Anniston or stay with Jolie..
The honest debate that many would like to see is made nearly impossible by a disinformation media that packs a daily dose of lies, distortions, and misrepresentations into the heads of way too many people. You can't really have a constructive debate when one side has no standards of honesty and no particular desire to seek the truth at all...
I hold myself accountable to verifying my facts and the facts can be found. The media has been "entertaining" us with commentary and slant for as long as its own history.
We have it better than we ever have the Library of Congress online, OpenCongress.org for the bills, and we even have the Health Care Bills read aloud online. It couldn't be easier to verify facts.

You been watching FOX News? Or perhaps listening to Limbo?

Be fair. All TV news is crap, and most newspapers too.
Television is a terrible medium for conveying any reasonable amount of information. The advertising, profit motive, and obsession with ratings certainly doesn't help either.
If you want news, turn off the TV and go read your news online. For major internationally-reported stories, find the same story on at least 3 news sites from different countries and read all of them. Then, draw your own conclusions based on what you read instead of what some bozo tells you.

Seriously??? There are more bozos on the internet than anywhere because their speech is not regulated or censored.
The internet is the last place to search for truth and fairness.
Sins?
Of course, one must throw religious hogwash into the fray.

ARGH!
You do the same thing to others.
If you don't mention commentary and present opinion as fact, it will be questioned.
