Man oh man.

"Darpa's research projects have already extracted oil from algal ponds at a cost of $2 per gallon. It is now on track to begin large-scale refining of that oil into jet fuel, at a cost of less than $3 a gallon, according to Barbara McQuiston, special assistant for energy at Darpa."

This is from the guys that brought us wireless tech and our beloved Internet.

So guess what nay sayers, the government and its most socialistic manifestation, the military CAN GET THINGS RIGHT.

Barry give the Pentagon the biggest bailout in history.

You guys feeling a tingle?

Yeah, we're sitting on the largest shale reserves in the world, which would bring our costs WAY down, yet we can't get them to fund that.

Wait until they find an endangered worm or something in those ponds. That'll be fun.

We've discovered energy reserves everywhere. Whether they'll let them move forward with something, that's another story.

Hopeful, but realistic.

It's Bush's fault.

NASA, DARPA.... AEGIS, the Manhattan Project, Missle Defense, and Lasers - I'll give the gov't that. Notice how much cash flow was needed for these scientific advancements, I'm not sure the private sector had the financing and witherall to discover these things.

Every great gov't/nation funds the sciences.

I wonder why we subsidize an industry that fuels (no pun intended) our enemies and is dangerous and costly.

With a plan that reduces Co2 and puts some dough in tax payers like this one does and the use of algae, the government should invest as much as it can into real clean technologies.

These guys are really serious about a green economic revolution.

Don't sleep on these guys because they gave us the cellular, GPS and internet tech that we now take for granted.

I saw a TV program about these algal ponds and their possibilities. Very interesting and exciting.

Exxon ponied up $600M for research into just this form of energy. This technology is for real.

Bravo for DARPA, and SCIENCE.

Nasa might be saved, courtesy of the few surviving Republicans left (not to be confused with the lunatic cult of Beck followers that have done their best to hijack that name).

New, innovative tech like the bloom came out of nasa.
