I do not really care either way, I see it in more of a historical context than a religious one. It was placed there in 50s as a symbol of presence and freedom of religion in the US, in stark contrast to the USSR where the religious were persecuted or rounded up and placed in prisons, sanitariums, and labor camps.
Good point, though the height of Soviet repression of religious officials was during the 30's.
I think this had more to do with McCarthyism and "those damn Commies" than anything...
You know something, you're ABSOLUTELY right. God would most likely be insulted that his name is used on what is considered to be the "root of ALL evil".

It was put there in the 50's during the peak of McCarthyism It was done as a ploy in a time of paranoia using religious and political propaganda. We always have had freedom of religion. Having it on our money simply offends the Constitution.
If you believe in a separation of Church and State, or that religious symbols should be kept off of government property, shouldn't "In God We Trust" be removed from our currency?
Then what will we Bi**h about. first in schools, then in public places and meetings , now our money, WoW those were very simple to do and not very costly, BUT think what will be next , oh yea the Supreme Court? with all those carving on the walls , doors and such, now thats where you will start getting into EXPENSES. That will never happen so lets stop here and leave well enough alone. Or we really that afraid of GOD? ( the word)
