Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Mayor Oscar Goodman has refused an invitation to meet with President Obama when he arrives in town on Thursday. Mayor Goodman called President Obama a slow learner after he told Americans not to blow money on a weekend in Las Vegas if they were saving to put their kids through college.

"I've got other things to do quite frankly for my constituents here in Las Vegas who rely on me to do the right thing as a mayor," explained Mayor Goodman.

The Mayor of a city known for gambling, prostitution and organized crime doesn't choose to welcome the POTUS to his city because the President has told Americans not to gamble away their kids college funds... and that makes the President a bad leader.

I can't even believe some of the comments that I read in this thread.

You need to stop living in the past with your sterotyping of Las Vegas.

The POTUS is a bad leader because he is a partisan incompetent fool. He does not serve the people, he serves an agenda.

I would agree that organized crime may not be as prevalent as before. Gambling is, of course. Prostitution should be legalized (but that's another thread). The mayor is doing what he is doing because his constituents demand it because their livelihoods depend on people spending money at the casinos and surrounding businesses.

With that said, if someone says "save your money for college instead of spending on gambling and prostitutes" I would think that wise because it is. Obama could have said this instead: "save your money for college instead of spending [insert spending option here]" and he still would have made someone mad. He could have just said "save your money" and that still would have made someone mad.

Las Vegas dropped the promotion of the city as a family destination long ago. Is it ok to spend your child's college fund at Disney World?

I remember when Las Vegas tried to Disneyfy itself. It sucked. Leave Disney to Disney.

And every one before the current POTUS. Once I understood it, the machinations of politics no longer surprised me.
