Looking at past history, Presidents with past military leader experience, stand out as being the best Presidents in history.
The worst Presidents all have no, to very little military backgrounds.
Is it the military leadership, that is exercised at the helm and that leadership is a driving force, to get things done that are good for the country, as a whole.
While those with little to none, are high powered lawyers, or political machines, with a power trip, trying to control some aspect of human life in America and abroad.
What do you think is the cause for better leadership, among X-military leaders, being our President?

While there are a few that definitely buck that trend (Murtha comes to mind), overall I agree. It goes to experience. When you're making policies and decisions that affect our military, it helps if you've been on the other side and understand what policies will truly help our military and which will handcuff them and not allow them to do their job. It's the same with business...if you've run a successful business and know what it takes to do so, and if you know how previous policies have affected your abilities to continue to grow and employ people, it helps in your decision making as a leader.
While education is important, those that jump out of college with a fancy degree and jump straight into politics have NO real world experience and don't understand how policies affect the majority of the citizens. They only know how to win elections, and once they've done that, they're in over their heads and usually start making decisions based being popular to win more elections, and not what's best for the country. It's a problem that's rampant in both parties.

Since the primary function of the President is Commander in Chief, I think it's pretty obvious.
Too many people really have a very poor understanding of how our government is structured. Hell, many (most?) believe that our system of government is a democracy. It's no wonder that they think it's the President's job to do all these things that he actually has no business sticking his nose into whatsoever.
