Are we as a nation returning to an era when Sen. Joe McCarthy compiled lists of communists?
Today I suppose communists would be replaced with socialists, and it seems that quite a few fellow C-D members question the patriotism of anybody who disagrees with conservatives.
Many people on here who disagree with conservatives are branded as "socialists", do people really believe this?
In repsonse to Sen. Joe McCarthy in the 1950s, the late Sen. Margaret Chase Smith delivered a "Declaration of Conscience" on the Senate floor in which she said, "I don't want to see the Republican Party ride to political victory on the Four Horses of Calumny -- Fear, Ignorance, Bigotry and Smear"
It seems to me that many on the right are turning to fear, Ignorance, bigotry and smear once again...
"Are you now, or have you ever been........a racist??"
the left AND the right both push their agendas, and they guy in the middle get the short end of the stick
the funniest thing is if you look at Hitler's 25 points of socialism....and compare it to the platform of the DNC (liberals)...you will find it remarkably simular
You ignore the name calling and viciousness from the left, and I will ignore it from the right and we will both be happy...!
But that's not what you're doing. You're certainly welcome to start a thread complaining about all the name calling from the Right, but don't surprised when examples are brought up regarding the vicious attacks from the Left as a comparison.

Well, some of us on the left are happy to call ourselves Socialists, along with many of our European brethren. I don't think that what the Democrats are doing is Socialist at all. It's corporatist with a slightly more liberal view on some issues. The partisan screaming is hype. The two parties agree on most issues but they pretend to be polar opposites because it suits their political agenda, an agenda that is all about satisfying lobbyists, big industry, and plutocrats while tossing crumbs to the masses.
Although the latter doesn't have anything to do with a so-called political system, I would say it's more like "communist" is being replaced with "terrorist".
