My husband was audited by the IRS and they ended up giving him a check for over $9,000. Not only that they tagged his account so he couldn't get audited again in the future for the same thing they did that time. You give them what they want in the way of records, play straight with the system to begin with, and it doesn't have to turn out bad with the IRS.

I haven't given this much thought (or thought it out) but OUR tax dollars are supposed to benefit US yet they seem to benefit foreign countries, polititcians and big corporations more while our roads, bridges, schools all need attention. Why is so much of our tax dollars going to the feds when the majority is wasted? Shouldn't the states keep more if not all and take care of their own states?

Interesting topic you have there DCSLDCD. I think that you are on to something. I know public schools definitely need help. My daughters 3rd grade teacher is bouncing between 2 ways to teach math and about 7 other subjects in 7 1/2 hours. To me this is ludicrous. Luckily my daughter is able to keep up. Others in the class cannot. How can we pass students that cannot keep up, just to keep the money flowing into the school? I would love it if you started a discussion of this. Sorry for the interrupt.

I agree they are workable when everything is provided. The problem is when you have posibly moved and not got their notice. they rule agaist you and grab all your assets. It takes sometimes years to resolve it. OR some illegal immigrant is working under your stoled SS# and the IRS hands you a bill for all the back taxes. Again it takes years to resolve it, if ever. Again the IRS may grab all your assets until resolved.

I get audited regularly for our business but it usually goes like clockwork.

Now here is a story of how far the IRS will go

OMAHA, Neb. - The Internal Revenue Service will go to almost any lengths to retrieve back taxes. In a case against an Iranian immigrant, federal officials are considering following the man into the grave.
The U.S. attorney's office says it might ask to exhume the body of Ehsanolla Motaghed just to make sure he's dead. Motaghed apparently died June 9 without paying $156,000 in back taxes.

I would love to but I have not really thought it out and I have a meeting tonight. There is SO much waste in the federal government it has to be a better way to keep tax dollar within a state.

You really show your ignorance when you write something sarcastic like that. First local taxes pay for most of everything you just mentioned there. Gas tax pays for the roads; either way, does it really cost that much for some asphalt? Just look at our dilapidated infrastructure, crime ridden inner cities and failed foreign it's obvious they aren't spending the money on roads, police and national security.

We didn't even have an income tax until ~1913 and it was voluntary. How do you think we went through the industrial revolution without one?!?!?

I KNOW they aren't spending anything on security or foreign! Look at our national defence bill! It is so tiny compared to other countries! THAT SUCKS. Why do you think the Iraq war is so CHEAP? ? ? And our local taxes beng paid to maintain these federal highways? NOT.. It's Not being used for local highways EITEHR according to you!!!! I hear you BROTHER> KEEP preaching the Good fight!!!1111 Only someone showing TRUE ignorance could say that local taxes pay are being used for infrastrcuture and then in the same breath say it is not being used for infrastructure!!!! TELL ME MORE about these MORANS>

Considering all the threats, destruction of lives and actual violence they've committed against people, I have no sympathy...one government agency you could never pay me to work for. Too evil.

I pay enough in taxes, I don't want my charitable contributions to my church to be taxed as well.

I agree. We do need to abolish the IRS and go to a flat tax system. I'm on unemployment but apparently, my employer did not take out enough in taxes so I'm going to have to owe 3,000. I'm upset but would never desire to have harm befall those who work for the IRS. They are just folks trying to earn a living. I just think it's time for the IRS to be abolished once and for all.
