"Liberty Counsel says it may lead a pullout of an annual conservative conference due to the involvement of a gay Republican organization.

GOProud announced its cosponsorship of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on December 8. However, Liberty Counsel's director of cultural affairs, Matt Barber, issued a notice to members and other conservatives saying he was "disturbed" that GOProud was a cosponsor for the event."

I've read that the Liberty Counsel is considered a fringe organization within the GOP. Can anyone clarify this?

Why are gays even there? They should be forming their own organizations. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. End this madness and just innovate your own group. It has always worked that way in regards to people having differences.

But no they should not be "banned". That is stupidity and bigotry.

Why should they banned? The GOP should be proud of any support they can get and second of all, if for some crazy reason a gay person decides to be Republican, they have every right to support their group.

Gay Republicans aren't as rare as you might think. The CNN exit polls for the presidential elections in 2000, 2004, and 2008 consistently showed that about 25% of those who identified as gay, lesbian, or bisexual voted for the Republican candidate for President.

I agree with that but the gay republicans need to get their heads out of the clouds and understand that they will never be seen as equals among those vultures. They should form their own organization.

The problem with gays like that is that they are too busy living the conformist dream. The only supportive leaders that they look up to are the very vultures that are oppressing them with oppressive anti-gay laws and anti-gay attitudes. They think that conforming to Republican politics will make them more accepted and revered. Um no. It is insane. Get a grip.

It would be really sad if these Republican groups were leaning on libertarian values because gays should be accepted there without any problems.

But if these gays are trying to get into hardcore Christian loving conservative Republican groups then it makes no sense at all. It is asinine.

Lisa De Pasquale, the director of CPAC, said the 100 conservative groups in the coalition are bound to have some disagreements with each other. "But at the end of the day," she told political blog Hot Air, "we all agree on core conservative principles. As you know, GOProud was founded by a former member of the Log Cabin Republicans who left the group because he thought they were doing a disservice to their constituency by not adhering to conservative and Republican principles." De Pasquale added, "After talking with their leadership and reviewing their website, I am satisfied that they do not represent a 'radical leftist agenda,' as some have stated, and should not be rejected as a CPAC cosponsor."
I take this statement as a positive development in republican camp evolution. They've got to get beyond this hateful garbage if they are to survive in the 21st century. Time to put their big girl panties on, no more whining.

Let's all sing it together now, shall we? "This land was made for YOU and ME." :::smoochie smoo:::

I actually admire the gay guys who are Republicans. They're supporting the Republican Party based on their beliefs in conservative principles, regardless of the fact that many in their own party don't want them there. That takes balls.

Our sexual orientation (whatever it may be) is just one part of who we are as humans.

The conservative principles of today are oppressive and duplicitous. Did our government feel or seem any smaller when W was president?

Well, but that hasn't stopped heterosexual Republicans from supporting their party, so I don't see why that would matter to them.
