Smokers should be charged TRIPLE for calling. They caused their own heart attack.
Are you perfect? Exercise? Eat perfectly? Have checkups all the time? Don't drink? Etc. Of course you aren't. Until they make cigarettes illegal, your proposal is just selfish.

Negatives-if someone needs help and makes min. wage....it can be bad.
$300 is a LOT of money for someone to have to pay especially if they require an expensive ER visit and ambulance.

Um ... What if the symptoms are serious but you are given a clean bill of health from the ER? That happened to me TWICE and the symptom was urgent enough to place me ahead of the ER queue both times.

Good point KevK. If this is actually implemented, there would be an increase in the number of bystanders who will not get involved. Thinking about that poor teenager who was gang-raped in Richmond, CA a while back, she got help because a bystander called 911. Should that bystander have been charged $300 for the call?
I pay a yearly fee of $48 for ambulance service, if and when needed. If you don't have the "ambulance insurance" your cost if $300 minimum per ride to the hospital in an ambulance. What's the big deal? No one wants to pay more in property taxes---they keep getting voted down---so something has to give to keep community services flowing.

$300 minimum per ambulence ride? In Springfield, Oregon a ride in one of those pretty little glorified mini-vans runs $1700. And that's if you are local to the hospital. Outside of 10 miles is like $200 more per mile.
Our yearly fee for ambulance coverage for the family is $50. Smart people pay the yearly fee. I don't care how healthy they are. Everybody can have an accident.

I am far from perfect but I know better than to suck cigarettes, skate board off walls with no helmet or weigh 300 lbs. People who do not should pay far more.

I honestly don't know. I guess they could have the ER determine. Personally I don't see how they could ever enforce this. I think it is a dumb thing to even attempt to do I was just playing devils advocate.
