Ferd... you cannot be serious. Caring about the planet we live on, enjoying wilderness and nature, attempting to reduce pollution and preserve natural resources --- this is what you think equates to communism?

Keep in mind that the old USSR was one of the worst nations in history with its abysmal environmental track record. We in the USA, as a democratic republic (albeit one that is largely controlled by corporate lobbies), have the greatest opportunity to make positive changes toward a "green" way of living. This will be best accomplished through the efforts of American citizens joining together in an effort to change the way we do business. A green agenda has been bubbling up from the grass roots since I was a kid who started an environmental group for high school students in 1972. We're not communists.

Seriously, if you haven't noticed, it unfortunately takes "draconian measures" to get industry to do anything substantial on this front. Yes, there are exceptions of course and I commend those companies, but it seems that, with regard to pollution, our industry is like Toyota has been with their recall: Do the absolute minimum that you can to appease people and not harm our profit margins....

Either way, like I said, I'm willing to listen to alternative solutions but as usual, all I'm hearing is whining about the boogeyman of carbon credits and "No, No, No" instead of something substantive as an alternative.... You got something?

A 98% reduction would mean hardly anyone would have job, air conditioning and heating would have to be cut off to save carbon emmisions from power plants, nobody would be driving internal combustion engines. The entire nation would grind to a complete halt!

Yeah, I guess that might get us "moving," alright, but we'd be walking to wherever it is we're going.

So it is your contention that power companies would rather shut down than attempt to comply with new CO2 regulations?

You can't cut CO2 by 98 percent and have anything resembling a modern lifestyle in America...
