Only a fool would think that socialism is absolute. Black and white, either you are or you are not. Only a fool wouldn't consider that the blur between socialism and capitalism is a pretty large grey zone... a zone which the US sits right in the middle of.

You think I don't know that? It shows how little you know!

Why don't you explain that to some of your right-wing friends who think any time the government contributes to something or anytime the people pay for something in which we ALL benefit that it's socialism?

I'm not the one you need to be directing your attention towards.

Keep in mind, those businesses will have to spend most of their money repaying the huge debt too. Money they would have otherwise spent on employees' wages.

Massive bank failures are bad, no doubt about it. But they might be better than the future our children face as a result of our incredible debt and borrowing tendencies.
It's not like companies will have to pay their entire earnining to the IRS. Under the tax proposal, those with 6 figure incomes will pay the bulk of it. For better of for worse it's not like they'll be losing a ton, not much more than under Clinton. FDR did the same thing and was in a similar situation with a war. It's baseless fearmongering.

"Just compensation" would either be in lawful money (as defined by the USCON and laws) or that which the property owner agreed to as just. Anything else would be unjust, inequitable, and immoral.

"General welfare" means that it is for the protection of life, liberty and / or property rights of all. Of course, since 1935, national socialism has broadened that term to include a host of other things. But since participation in socialism is still 100% voluntary, the government can excuse itself. He who consents cannot object.

And finally, in the Republican form of government, the people are sovereign. However, if one has changed forms and now participates in the Democratic form of government, as part of the whole body of subject citizens, the majority may dispossess the minority.

Handy Retort

Whenever confronted by a slogan throwing leftist / socialist / progressive / collectivist bemoaning some cause, there is a retort that shuts them up.

Remember to preface "No one should suffer / die because they lack {fill in the blank}", with "No one should be compelled to labor for another, so that...."

To illustrate:
"No one should be compelled to labor for another, so that no one should suffer from old age and poverty."

Slavery is never an acceptable solution to the ills of mankind.

Voluntary charity is a blessing.
Compulsory charity is a curse.

Are YOU in favor of slavery?

Yeah, and if you're in the bottom half and pay very little or no taxes.
Then I'll give you a little quote from the Founder's "No taxation without Representation"!

In your case it should be, "No Taxation / No Representation!
Stay home on election day, you've disenfranchised yourself!

[quote=southward bound;13019248]Then you are a good patriot! quote]

Forced patriotism!
The Government having their hand in my pocket to do things they were never Constitutionally empowered to do is just tyranny!

I for one have had enough of this (expletive deleted)!

ObaMao being elected may have good consequences in that it has awakened the "sleeping" electorate whose philosophy seems to be "Go along, to Get along"!

Was it President Adams that said, "A people that trades a little Liberty for Freedom deserves neither Liberty nor Freedom"!
