Why can't we have a political discourse without the unnecessary cheap shots and name calling?

I don't think most people use that banter here. It's just a very loud few who do though I'll admit I've been guilty of it before. But it's them who we remember, not the ones who were pleasant and polite. When I worked in the customer service business it was always the bad customers I'd remember not the good ones. Maybe it's just the way I think (I do have a somewhat negative Jersey point of mind) but looking back for every bad customer there were 4 good ones.

Hope I didn't offend you, Chatteress. I never wrote that I hate Cheney btw. I just said he was corrupt.

Because when people have weak arguments, they usually resort to name calling.

When a person speaks about our President in such a manner of not grieving after his death and calling him a rat bastard, that is a cheap shot from the right side.
This is a husband and father of two young girls.

I have never wished anyone dead, regardless of how much I disagree with their politics.
If you don't like the person in the White House, all you gotta do is shut up, wait it out and Vote!

Thread # 45,689 on "why can't we all just get along?"
One that will deteriorate into a lot of cheap shots with each side broadbrushing the other side about how "they' are the ones doing it.

(Is the OP going to consider that first sentence a 'cheap shot'?)

Wow if that bothers you, you should see what they say about Palin AND Palin's children. The left has even attacked her baby with disabilities.

While Palin has no direct effect on anyone's life, hussein obama does and he deserves everything he's getting so far.

when you can not argue facts you resort to name calling. By name calling you think you are marginalizing the other person, if we all understood that name calling only marginalizes the person that name calls then we would have less of it

Ad hominem attacks are the surest and most ubiquitous signs of intellectual weakness and vacuous desperation.

Many people raise their voices when they should reinforce their arguments.
