Well the thing I fear is that this administration is outspending the Bushies by billions and we will soon be bankrupt and unable to help our own. But then the goal of some on this planet is to reduce the USA to third world conditions and we are well on our way.

There are a lot of resources on each island at higher elevations. If Hilo is hit, for example, it will be devastating (particularly as a lot of the buildings downtown are historic and fragile)....but it will be a massive shocker if other communities on the island are affected. If Hawai'i needs help it may be in terms of $ for rebuilding, but there's a lot of manpower and resources right on the island that likely won't be affected.

The 1960 tsunami hit Hilo hard, but the the rest of the island was not affected much.

We have plenty of resources to take care of Hawaii on our own. If our response is disorganized (as it was in New Orleans), that's our problem. I don't expect other countries to save us from our ineptitude.

So the OP posts an entirely unsupported assertion and, when proven wrong, goes missing

Cost of unneccessary war since 2001 = $956,606,700,000 or $705,000,000,000 depending on the source.

You probably need a refresher course on "Socialism" then, most people here seem to be acutely unaware of what the definition is. Again, if you are scoring at home, after Katrina aid poured in from all over the world.

Sometimes people help each other or countries help each other because, quite simply, it is the right thing to do

Sounds good to me.

Why anybody would find a way to take human compassion and make it seem like a bad thing is something I can't quite wrap my head around.

I only live about 15-20 minutes for Long Beach, CA. I'm going to go check it out right now. The last time even a small tsunami hit Long Beach, there was significant damage. This may get interesting!!!

Actually, the US government turned away lots of aid from foreign countries for new Orleans in the disguise of we take care of our own, and we saw how that turned out.
