Sen. Bunning is costing the States $190 million/day for highway transportation projects, and he has now directly affected 2000 federal workers.

Nice job there Bunning...

AP Wire News | nvdaily.com (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_TRANSPORTATION_FURLOUGHS?SITE=VASTR&SECTION=HOM E&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT - broken link)

Quote:
The furloughs and freeze on payments were the result of a decision last week by Republican Sen. Jim Bunning to block passage of legislation that would have extended federal highway and transit programs, the department said. Those programs expired at midnight Sunday.
The extension of transportation programs was part of a larger package of government programs that also expired Sunday, including unemployment benefits for about 400,000 Americans.

First, he's not costing the STATE, anything.. He's SAVING the FEDERAL taxpayers money.. Do you undertand the difference betseen states not spending, and federal, not spending, and now not spending equals SAVINGS, not spending?

Bunning is stopping NOTHING, its DEMOCRATS not funding the spending they support..

So you are advocating cutting off 11 million unemployed, we'll send them to your house for dinner.
Unemployment will be extended because there are no jobs and America can't afford 20 million homeless living by the roadsides. Then we will have to pay millions to rebuild the claims that the computer has shut off.

There are no jobs, so millions will lose their homes and be living under the overpasses and along the railways.
But
My point is that Congress WILL extend unemployment and all of those claims will have to be rebuilt costing you and I millions to do. It is turning into a fiasco bigger than when Newt shut down the government. Thousands of Federal employees wound up getting two free weeks paid vacation and it took a month to get caught up.

uhm,,,,

since there are as you say "no jobs" then what is the sense of extending unemployement????? why not just put them of welfare, since there is not jobs

funny thing, I open up the newspaper today and there are 4+ pages worth of jobs....and that is just in my area

maybe if they are not recieving a FREE RIDE, they will actually look for the jobs that ARE AVAILABLE

Some of you need to accept at some point and time the checkbook has got to be closed. At some point we are going to have to make very hard tough choices that will hurt but we dont have a money tree growing at the white house that we can keep picking from.

I wish democrats would care as much about the debt now as they did when Bush was in office

It is interesting how they craft these bills, they throw in transportation infrastructure which is a role of the federal gvt with unemployment beni's.That way if there is objection they can bring out the boogeyman,Oh look we had to stop building and it cost people their jobs.It is total bogus overkill because Kyl {R} said this yesterday.
Quote:
Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., the Senate's second-ranking Republican leader, told "Fox News Sunday" that he expects GOP lawmakers will vote to extend unemployment benefits this week
.
Then the leaders over react with this excuse from a {R} I might add.
Quote:
LaHood said construction workers will be sent home from job sites because federal inspectors must be furloughed.
To those who have worked construction how often to you see inspectors? Can anyone tell me that you saw a inspector daily?even once a week?So they created a boogeyman and were successful to dupe the very ignorant. And it was a total masquerade because Kyl has already admitted yesterday that the spineless {R}s were going to vote for the bill.
See those who are receiving unemployment beni's already have our leaders running scared, they will be extended to 99 weeks then after that 120 etc etc.
You {R}s that claim you are a conservative and are concerned about the debt,if your Rep or Sen supported this bill and you vote to return them to office you are a big hypocrite. Now go drink your tea.

Yup, not spending Federal $$$ where they should be spent, improving infrastructure (which is a never ending process), keeping people employed . . . !

But, at least he's not a hypocrite. But it'll cost him reelection.

Then, what do you expect from the home state of the Creationist Museum?

"Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., the Senate's second-ranking Republican leader, told "Fox News Sunday" that he expects GOP lawmakers will vote to extend unemployment benefits this week.

The Senate has already passed a separate jobs bill that also contains an extension of unemployment benefits and highway programs. House leaders have said they hope to pass the Senate jobs bill on Tuesday. If that happens, the bill could be signed into law Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, ending the furloughs."

. . . ? Huh?
