Yankees are in their spring training camp. They said so 20 times in the news report. These guys must know what they were talking about... spring...
I was thinking of that while trying to avoid the snow piles on my driveway. Then, I almost slipped on an ice patch. This spring is kinda of weird...

If this is recovery ;its kind of like the doctor telling the patient that can't walk;this is as good as its going to get;get use to it.The answer after TARP 700 Billion;stimulus 758 billion is extension of unemployment not paid for in the budget. Doesn't look to promising for the patient.

Actually things will be fine. Unemployment claims have resumed their downward march (after being up for 2 weeks) and retail sales for February were apparently quite a bit better than expected - in spite of the extreme storms that struck much of the country during February. Hiring will likely resume this spring - which will result in the consumer confidence numbers rising (as it is, even with that number being low, retail sales are STILL picking up).

The economy is still fragile but it will gain strength over the coming months.

New claims for jobless benefits fell last week in a sign that layoffs may be easing as the economy slowly recovers.

The Labor Department said Thursday that initial claims for unemployment insurance fell by 29,000 to a seasonally adjusted 469,000. That nearly matches Wall Street analysts' estimates of 470,000.

Fourteen of the 19 retailers that have so far reported beat analysts' expectations, according to Thomson Reuters data.

The results bode well for March sales, which will also benefit from an earlier Easter than last year, Perkins said.

In other words you're hoping the recovery will wait at least 3 years.

I don't think so.
Job growth will come in the spring.
The only questions are: How fast? How many?

Home sales fall - likely due to the horrendous February weather.

The number of buyers who agreed to purchase previously occupied homes fell sharply in January, a sign that demand for housing is sinking this winter, especially after stormy weather hit much of the country.

News Headlines

Meanwhile factory orders continue to increase (for the 6th month in a row).

Orders to U.S. factories posted the biggest increase in four months in January, led by a surge in demand for commercial aircraft. The increase was another sign that manufacturing is helping to support the economic recovery.

It's not spring yet - and the numbers CURRENTLY being reported are for FEBRUARY. Spring numbers won't be reported until April (and even that will only be for 1 week of spring). REAL spring numbers are the numbers for April - which are reported in MAY.

January's unemployment was under 10%.
February's unemployment number hasn't been reported yet.

The unemployment rate is a farce. You have to look at the net jobs created to get a gauge on the economy.
