Wrong, smokers are addicted to nicotine which is extremely hard to give up. Did you know that nicotine is more addictive than herion. Just because they can do their job does not make them any less an addict.

while we can argue if starting smoking is smart with all the information to the contrary, once started it is about addiction not smarts.

Statistical outlier.

That said, a correlation does not mean a causation. I brought this up in another tobacco thread. Do smokers have low IQs because of smoking? Or do people with low IQs tend to pick up smoking?

I would say that people with low IQs start ridiculous threads about smoking when they can't prove what they want about smoking.

Not to wander off topic too much, but I'd like to say that Americans did some of their best work during the period of time when even cocaine was legal .. We used to win World Wars, we didn't take any guff from anyone .. we built an entire nation with infrastructure, from end to end, in less than 100 years .. and now here we are .. bantering about the presumed stupidity of smokers.

I don't support drug use .. but when you stop and consider just how fast we grew into a super power, one has to wonder if in fact drugs, to various levels and degrees, played any kind of role in that.

I just wonder if alcoholism is better than a smoking addiction. I don't smoke. Are drinkers stupid as well?

addiction isn't about smart or not. addiction is only a problem when it interferes with your daily life. smoking addiction is way more accepted than a drinking addiction. unlike problem drinkers the smoking addiction doesn't get in the way of maintaining a normal life. it also doesn't impair your abilities to drive or make rational decisions about life's issues. both addiction wreaks havoc on your body.
