Interesting. I don't really care but I hope they can support themselves here.

I'm sure they will. Germans tend to be resourceful and disciplined. That usually equals opportunity in America. Big win win for this couple.

Are there really thousands of Germans wanting to come to the USA that can't otherwise get here, who are also willing to homeschool their children? Off the top of my head, I believe that Germany is the only European nation that disallows homeschooling.

Why come all the way to the US when they could easily have moved to a neighboring European country where homeschooling is allowed?

Looks like they've opened a loophole.........

They came here because they knew some religious nutcase of bible reader judge will hear their case. This was in the NY Times 2 days ago.

Judge in Memphis Grants Asylum to German Home Schoolers - NYTimes.com

Quote:
But the Romeikes, who are devout Christians, said they wanted their children to learn in a different environment.
In a harshly worded decision, the judge, Lawrence O. Burman, denounced the German policy, calling it “utterly repellent to everything we believe as Americans,” and expressed shock at the heavy fines and other penalties the government has levied on home-schooling parents, including taking custody of their children.
Describing home-schoolers as a distinct group of people who have a “principled opposition to government policy,” he ruled that the Romeikes would face persecution both because of their religious beliefs and because they were “members of a particular social group,” two standards for granting asylum.

Mr. Romeike began looking to other countries, but his inability to speak anything other than German or English limited his options.
The judge is such a dumbass. He obviously never heard of the U.K. Don't they speak English there? And before deciding such a case, he should have gotten educated about the subject. They could have moved to any E.U. country, since they got E.U. citizenship.
U.K. , Austria, Netherlands....

The UK is not known for their friendlyness to foreigners. They banned a talk show host from even entering the country.
