The double standard makes sense. Sexual relationships like these are psychologically damaging to boys and girls alike. The difference is that an average middle aged woman is less capable of physically hurting a testosterone-filled 15 year-old boy. A full grown man with full grown man strength can be physically imposing to the average 15-year old girl. She may be athletic, but certainly lacks the brute strength to fend off a man intent on harming her.
When these situations occur, we imagine the teenage girl giving in because she's not physically able to fight back. A teen boy can fight back so it's hard for people to see the adult woman's advances as rape. Perhaps we should think of it as psychological rape more than physical rape.
This is a rather disingenuous way of trying to justify the sexist double-standard. This issue has nothing to do with sexual assault as defined by the use or threat of physical force. The legal and ethical basis of statutory rape laws rest in the idea that an older adult is likely in the position to psychologically and socially manipulate the actions of the younger adolescent. A woman is every bit as capable as a man of engaging in that manipulation.
These relationships are mutually consensual. Thus, the question becomes that of whether or not the younger individual has developed the emotional and psychological maturity to understand the ramifications of their consent. Given the reality of contemporary adolescent sexuality, it's perfectly reasonable to discuss the issues surrounding age of consent laws. However, to hold males to greater accountability than females who commit the same infractions, is nothing less than blatant sexism.

That is true, but it is hard for me to feel it when I have heard so many stories of men who were taken by an older woman when they were in their teens, and look back on it as something wonderful for the rest of their lives.
A simple way to get past unequal jury sentences would be mandatory minimum sentencing for authority figures like teachers convicted of sex crimes against minors in their care.
However, I'd suggest the mandatory minimum be higher for younger students, and perhaps higher the wider the age gap.
I think the abuse of power and consensual nature of the relationship is affected by those factors.
A teacher of any age who engages in sexual relations with a 12 year old vs. a 50 year old teacher having sexual relations with a 17 year old vs. a 25 year old having sexual relations with a 17 year old.... Regardless of the gender or sexual orientation of the participants, the relative ages of the offender and victim play a role in how "sick" it is. IMO...
The reason why there's a double standard on this topic is because of MEN in this country, not women. Heterosexual men coddle female pedophiles because to be a victim is to be weak. Until they get over themselves, female pedophiles will continue to get a pass.

Pedophilia is pedophilia. The fact that this is even a debate is disgusting.
30yo female teacher "dating" a 14yo male student = Most people give it a big thumbs up (depending on how hot the female teacher is)........at most the Teacher should get some minor administrative punishment.
30yo male teacher "dating" a 14yo female student = MAX prison time, with the teacher-rapist getting paid back by getting raped in prison! Castration is warranted in this case!
Myself, well, it is unpopular to say......but I would say that for either gender, you should be able to legally consent to sex from the age of 13. They can make rules against people in positions of authority from boinkying their charges.........for example, you boinky your student = losing your teaching cert for life!
Male teacher having sec with a female minor seems worse to me. A male student that has sex with his teacher is cheered while the young female student is felt sorry for and is considered to be manipulated.

Tell that Billy Flynn and his friends.
