it might help the white guilt crowd in their convictions to explain why they think black people care about them at all? should you really feel guilty for being white when the majority of black people don't really like you to begin with because you are white? you might as well just roll with it and live your own life versus feeling guilty for the words and actions of other white people
And in the same sense, why should black people give two figs about white people when it seems obvious that many white people don't like them to begin with? As for white guilt, have no idea what that even means. Although I see that statement come out quite often by certain people who like to closet their racism by pointing & laughing at others who choose not to go that direction.
There are plenty of examples of successful non-white men in this country. But if we're going to generalize, it would be more fair to state that the country is run by a few white folks. Fact is, the vast, vast majority of whites are shut out in the same way blacks and other minorities are. The U.S. is much more a classist country than it is a racist one. That's an inconvenient truth for the poverty pimps out there (I admit I borrowed that term from a black man), but it is the truth.

EVERY person has the opportunity to succeed in the US, so perhaps you should be gearing this question towards the minorities if you feel they are some how not meeting your expectations.

As to the original OP, did it ever occur the most obvious answer as to why white Americans have the most wealth and opportunities? (maybe it did, I haven't read all the responses! LOL).
Anyway -- and I know this isn't PC nor going to make me very popular, but oh well -- perhaps it is because it was those of "white" decent (mostly western and northern European decent) who came over and built this country to begin with...?
They came over and made something out of what was, before, nothing but a wilderness. Sure, methods can be called questionable by todays' standards...but not anything different than what hasn't been done by all races/ethnic groups since the dawn of time in some form or fashion.
In the final analysis, why do most of us do what we do in terms of posterity, and creating wealth? We do it for our children...which is the most altruistic love existing.
So ok, doesn't it make sense that -- in macrocosm -- that the so-called privileges and benefits of white American are simply the sum-total result of all of it being passed down from generation to generation?
What is the alternative in a truly free society? When we die, that it goes to the government to be re-distrubuted? (which really, would only enrich and empower those who re-distribute it)
Something else too...which I know is going to make me catch hell....what is this whole thing about that everything would be equal among all people/segments save that white people didn't exploit from day one in America?
Fact is, if not for white people, blacks wouldn't be here to begin with. And have more opportunities than their less-fortunate kin living in Africa today. Further, these are not really exactly my words, but those (paraphrased) of Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams. Two black conservatives who see clearly the damage being done to the black community by the race/poverty pimps of Sharpton/Jackson in cahoots with white liberals.
Well, I know I am wanderiing OT...but had to say this. If whites get most of the benefits, then it is not anything any different than any other society at any time or any place. Only difference is that, here, things can change and often do.
I am very astute in Finance. I also watch Bloomberg Business Network........I almost always see white guys as guest "experts". Almost never do I see any ethnic minorities.
I also network a lot with venture capital and Private Equity firms and very rarely do I see ethnic minorities.
Big tech companies, almost always started by whites
5 black CEO's of Fortune 500 companies.
Almost all of Americas wealth is owned and controlled by whites.
I find it kind of odd, to be honest.
Can we have an honest talk about this?
Other ethnic groups work just as hard if not harder than whites. What seems to be the issue?
For the record please don't start naming successful black entertainers and athletes as if that's all blacks can do. There are far more black business owners that entertainers.
When I hear whites answer by naming black entertainers/athletes, that tells me they still have no clue about blacks or even other ethnic groups.
Hence, Obama's famous race speech. He certainly was not talking to blacks in his speech.
I think about this because of some of the things i want to get into as it relates to business, in most cases I'll be doing business with whites(Private Equity/Venture Capital). I hope because of their lack of familiarity with blacks in the industry, it does prevent me from attaining my goals.
When people are not familiar with you, they tend not to do business with you.

I'm not sure about the exact numbers anymore, but a while back I read in the NY Times that the gov't. gets 95% of its income taxes from 5% of the population. 40% of Americans don't even pay taxes, since they do not make enough to be required to pay taxes. So, I wouldn't say you can blame whites for that. It applies to pretty much everybody in this country.
The people you see on TV or wherever are usually Harvard, Princton, Yale Stanford etc. graduates anyway. Just look at the HS drop out rates. It dosen't look pretty there. If I'm not mistaken, it's something like 30% in Texas alone.

If one has a socialist insecurity number, one is equally liable for paying the 12 trillion public debt. And if one's wealth is denominated in "dollar bills" (no par value), that's also a minus value.

From that perspective, the truly richest people in America are those who are at least at "zero" (no debt obligation via FICA), or better.
Black people in the US (and the U.K, France, etc) have it much better than Blacks do in any majority-Black country.
Hell, even South Africa's modernization can be attributed to the fact it was ran by Whites until 1994.
