As for "twisting" of logic, I don't see it as that big a difference. Current state constitutions declare same sex marriage illegal for much the same reasons previous state laws declared interracial marriage to be illegal - it doesn't fit everyone's ideas about what marriage is. But that's what I've always considered one of the best things about this country - one doesn't have to live according to anyone else's rules about how to live a good and happy life!
Same sex marriage is not illegal for the same reasons interracial marriage was illegal.

Same sex marriage is generally not supported by the population because it goes DIRECTLY against the Bible's teachings, gay couples cannot procreate under ANY circumstances (which is many people's idea of the purpose of marriage), and because it goes against the tradition of marriage featuring a husband and a wife.

Interracial marriage was generally not supported because people thought that blacks and whites weren't equal and that races weren't supposed to mix.

The reasoning for the lack of support for these two VERY different topics are just that, VERY different.

And I guess that's why those against interracial marriage used many of the same arguments against it as are now used against same sex marriage? Many of the arguments I heard against interracial marriage were based on the Bible, just as many of the arguments I hear now against same sex marriage come from people's understanding (or misunderstanding) of the teachings of the Bible. As to the underlined, since when are our laws to be based on anyone's interpretation of the Bible or any other religious text?

Yes they have. Hey, Moses was in an interracial marriage.

Should there be votes on whether to ban interracial marriage?

An article snippet in 2009:

(AP) NEW ORLEANS A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.
"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."

So, if gay marriage is banned for not being natural. Shouldn't interracial marriage be banned for not being natural (in the sense that it's not common and such)?

How would ya'll feel if interracial marriage was banned?
Not common you are kidding. Find another reason or is this another forget the facts post?
Interracial marriage flourishes in U.S. - Race & ethnicity- msnbc.com
Since that landmark Loving v. Virginia ruling, the number of interracial marriages has soared; for example, black-white marriages increased from 65,000 in 1970 to 422,000 in 2005, according to Census Bureau figures.

Stanford: 7 percent of couples interracial
Factoring in all racial combinations, Stanford University sociologist Michael Rosenfeld calculates that more than 7 percent of America’s 59 million married couples in 2005 were interracial, compared to less than 2 percent in 1970.

Fine have it your way. Why not alienate people involved in interracial relationships against you also.

It goes both ways. There are areas in the US that I can't safely go. Parts of DC, NYC, LA. People of all races are violent and irrational.

I met a pretty cool dude from DC, and he straight up told me I wouldn't be able to go to his neighborhood unless he was basically holding my hand the whole time.

That's not correct. Most people marry for friendship and companionship. Having children is not at the top of the list for most married couples.

What about for 99.5 percent of Generation Y? They're more promiscuous than the previous generations. They tend to marry for the wrong reasons.

Being a product of an irr marriage, there are portions of America I refuse to visit, much less stop in when driving through. The movie "Deliverance" worked my psyche well enough, I don't need to see it firsthand. That said, there are probably people in every community (even "liberal" ones) who are opposed to the idea.

All I can say is props to the youth in these communities who are not buying into the b.s of their elders. Being opposed to Interracial marriages indicates disturbances on other levels usually. So if you find yourself strongly opposed, I would recommend looking into why your husband/or wife seems to hate you, why you seem to hate yourself and why you are generally depressed.

I was responding to a previous post by True Israelite, where he stated that liberalism had 'destroyed the good old days when interracial marriage wasn't allowed', or something to that effect
