"On Mar. 28, 2000, U.S. District Judge Melinda Harmon granted a temp restraining order against prosecution of any American who chooses not to ans the questions other than the number of people living at their address. She advises that if they ask any other questions than the no. of people living at your address, you may say to them that their questions are grounds for personal contempt of court, citing Judge Harmon's ruline, and that if they persist, they may be subject to fines and imprisonment. You also may tell them they are trespassing on your property and must leave or face arrest."
I've seen this posting several times. Anyone have a cite for the actual case?

The case isn't listed in any of her online major cases (because it is rather trivial IMHO). What the often quoted urban legend leaves out is that she reversed that very decision later the same year.
For those who quiver in cowardly fear of the census form, she is often cited.
chances are nearly 100 percent that they WILL contact you in WRITING and you just fill out the form and send it back. then the big bad scary census man won't come to your "property" at all, unless you are randomly selected for a process audit (of the census, not of you)

$100 max fine for not filling out. Considering the message that's sent if people do it en masse, I say it's little risk high reward. The Census was never intended as a means to distribute federal funds. It was only meant to calculate legislative representation. Just give them the # in household and if they show up tell them they are trespassing and to leave immediately.
No one's been prosecuted for not taking part in decades. The census workers are trained to leave if you tell them to, to avoid trouble/danger. Higher ups will send letters but, they're not sent certified or registered mail so they have no proof you ever got them.
The Census form is no big deal . However , a small percentage of homes will recieve the American Community Survey . It's like a Census form on steroids . VERY invasive . Do a GOOGLE search and see for yourself . They request very detailed information on your finances , employment , etc. More info than I care to share with a stranger .
The government-uber-alles fanatics are sure trying hard to pretend people are afraid of something when conservatives insist government obey the Constitution.
I wonder what the leftists' excuses are this time?
