we now depend to a large degree on the state for the education of our kids, for our healthcare, our infrastructure, agriculture, our protection etc. in fact i can't think of an area where govt is not present in some shape or form.
we used to be a society of self reliance where people took responsibility for their actions and enjoyed the fruit of their labor. having said that, most people used to understand family and voluntary community support because it was an integral part of self preservation.
the independence train has long left the station and it appears as though it's headed to a point where we are totally dependent on the state. is this the right direction?
