What worries me is that this is just a ploy to gain popular support but if they don't pass a well planned public option, the Dems risk losing their base.

Actually it is at 41. 24 have signed the letter from Colorado Senator Michael Bennet asking Reid to pass the Public Option through reconciliation. 17 others (including Reid) have made statements that they would vote for a Public Option if it came up through Reconciliation.
