So maybe it is just me, but there is this trend running around various levels of government that just burns me. I can see these actions as nothing more than pansy legislation put forward by pansies.

This has nothing to do with the right or left, republican or democrat, conservatives or liberals.

In a Country where freedom and liberty are very important and held dear by the populace, attempts to drive public action by banning or outlawing certain things and actions is viewed very poorly upon by the masses. Outlawing alcohol was a perfect example of how our Country's citizens respond to government telling us what we can and can not do.

Because of this, and because our government has such a desire to control the people, now they are legislating the same types of things, but with a trick up their sleeve.

They don't have the cohones to outlaw anything... so they simply make it unaffordable through taxation. Pansies.

There are so many examples of how our government tries to steer society in the direction they think society should go that I will only list a few. This taxation is nothing more than an artificial raising of the market value to reduce demand and line the pockets of government at the same time.

- Sin Tax
- Gas Tax

Just to name a few.

Do you agree with government steering society by screwing around with the supply and demand free market? Do you feel that society is smart enough to determine the own direction the country should go, and use their tax dollars to do their speaking? Do you think government is wrong for trying to sway public preferences by reducing demand?

My opinion is. What a bunch of pansies. If they don't want people to smoke anymore... they outlaw tobacco. They know however that they can't do that, so they take the easy road out while still satisfying their desire for power and control.

What is your take on these various types of taxes?

I suggest letting adults do damn near anything the want to themselves with or without others for as long as they want. Regulate and tax the stuff and use the money to rehab the people that want to quit and bury the ones that don't.

As I am an uncorrupted being I prefer sin taxes because I would not have to pay them.

No. How about STOP SPENDING MONEY YOU DO NOT HAVE!?!?

Don't you understand that if you taxed the life out of everyone, they will still want more. Why? So they can spend more! Politicians stay in office by offering freebies to thier constituents, not by making rational fiscal decisions. Try telling your constituents that we are broke and need to all get less.

Sounds like a great reason to pursue the Faitax amendment. Say gross Pay is 700/wk, you take it all home. Social Security, Medicare, Fed taxes etc... all paid for by tax on purchases. They are paid by everyone, including visitors to this country, ilegals... There is reference to studies that prove our government would end up with surplus $$$. We would be rid of IRS and create more reliable social security budget.....

I don't think you all are getting it. I am questioning various tax rates for various commodities the government uses to try and steer the public.

Like cigarettes and alcohol. Or things that affect us like gasoline.

How do you feel about sales taxes that vary by product or taxes that vary based on the government trying to get people to stop doing something.
