The Catholic sex-abuse stories emerging every day suggest that Catholics have a much bigger problem with child molestation than other denominations and the general population. Many point to peculiarities of the Catholic Church (its celibacy rules for priests, its insular hierarchy, its exclusion of women) to infer that there's something particularly pernicious about Catholic clerics that predisposes them to these horrific acts.

But priests are supposed to be good and ethical. They should be committing less crimes. They should be role-models that we can trust.

It isn't merely the fact that Catholic priests are infamous for pedophilia, it is also the fact that the Catholic hierarchy covers up the incidents.

Whether Catholic priests commit more or same level as the general public is no excuse because these are supposedly god fearing and righteous men, they are expected to not represent the worst of society.

It isn't just the fact of abuse by catholic priests, it is the fact of the deliberate cover-up and protection of these criminals by the Catholic Church that shocks.

I'm shocked that there are actually "Sexual Misconduct" riders available for insurance policies. That should tell you that companies and organizations don't trust human nature to bend to accommodate ethics policies.

And so are public school teachers but you don't see the nightly news constantly reporting all the sexual abuse cases involving public school teachers.

Well the teacher things are typically a student here and there. Obviously that is wrong, but some of these priests have abused dozens and in some cases hundreds of kids. You also don't see the cover up aspect in the schools with a teacher who is accused of such actions being transfered to another school like you see with Priests.

What would you recommend for any school principle who covered up for one of his teachers who was sexually abusing a student?
