I worked with a guy who went home and before his wife and 7 year old daughter arrived home, he went into his daughter's bathroom and blew his brains out.

That's even worse because he knew full well his daughter would be the most likely one to walk into the bathroom she used and be the one to find him.

I do find it selfish to not even care enough about a small child to spare them that.

We all heard that from someone in our lives. I've read in todays paper that 5 people died in 2 weeks in the Philly area on Amtraks North East Corridor train tracks. That is unbelievable considering 50 people die per year country wide. May God forgive them all for commiting suicide. I wish I was able to atleast convince them all not to end their lives that way.

Amtrak train deaths: 5 in 2 weeks | Philadelphia Inquirer | 03/12/2010 (http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20100312_Amtrak_train_deaths__5_in_2_weeks.html - broken link)
More people jump off of the golden gate bridge (I think) than in frunt of trains. Oh well.

If such person parks their vehicle on the tracks with the intent of having the train crash into it, a derailment is likely to occur (and did for a LA Metrolink Train in 2005).

A vehicle maybe, but I thought this thread was about people jumping in front of trains, rather than parking their cars on train tracks?

The person who parked his car was a suicidal attempt except he chickened out.

I wish people wouldn't be so selfish. As I always say, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Think about how you're death would affect others, and quit thinking life revolves around you.

So many cases like that where people kill themselves knowing they will be found by a loved one. I pray I never have to find anyone, let alone a loved one, hanging by a rope or with a bullet wound to the head.

Its my number 1 fear when , about operating a train which i will later this year. Its scary and sad , and you see them just explode. Its the most violent way to go , even more violent then suicide by cop.
