It won't change your daily life but do you trust this government so much that you will allow them to track you where ever you go?
i understand the absurdity of freaking out at the innocent idea that collecting dna will put you in shackles.
But! when you see people freak out it is because they read the bible, saw the "mark of the beast" and are prepared to fight anything that leads to that point.
The current government, Bush administration included (Read: patriot act) have not set limitations on the intrusiveness in peoples lives. the people objecting to this "recording and cataloging of criminals" see the potential future of EVERYBODY being required to do it.
how many of you trust that the government, local and federal, is actually going to keep your dna in a proper place and not use it for "other safety reasons" esspecially if these state governments are keeping tax returns?!
i take my government with a large grain of skepticism
Problem with you all is that it's been policy for state and federal law enforcement for years! Now it's an issue - ALL OF A SUDDEN?
No bias here.
Oh, give it up, old man. Do you really think that everybody that posts on C-D posts every single position on every single issue, and that you've read every single one of those posts? Get over yourself, and your unbelievably partisan BS stance.
California did this years ago, and I was against it then. The feds doing it is just another example of the californification of the country - something I see as a very, very bad thing.
It doesn't matter who is in the white house, or what letter is next to their name - this is a BAD IDEA.

Until somebody you know is vindicated by a stored DNA profile or you're involved, somehow, in having a stored DNA profile solve a problem. Then the attitude changes.

I can see your point. But how many of us are going to be vindicated by a stored DNA profile, but i guess if someone we knew a friend or a relative was, then of course the attitude would change.

How many would it take?
Fact is, there are numerous stories out there of people being caught after years of the crime and there are people being vindicated after years in prison from samples taken from a minor crime. Doesn't happen every day but it does happen.
True TV has stories every once in a while. Prolly get some good poop from The Innocence Project.

It does appear to be yet another federal intrusion into what is/should remain up to the individual states.
Let's take this one step further. Let's say the government is successful in nationalizing "health care". Next the feds have your DNA on file. We know there will be health care rationing because it has happened in every other country that has nationalized their health system. By having your DNA on file, the feds will be able to preemtively place people in categories where they will either be allowed to obtain treatment, or not, based on their genetic history. The information and power is taken away from you, your physician to determine your course of any treatment.
"Donating" is a voluntary action. How many government policies begin under the guise of being voluntary and progress (pesky word) into federal mandates with criminal charges/fines against those who fail/refuse to comply? Plenty.
