There are legitimate scientific reasons for excluding gays from certain studies. Scientists would want only heterosexuals if they were studying how HIV spreads during male-female sex, for example.
But the Fox Chase folks found cases where the reason for excluding gays is not clear: tests of a drug for attention-deficit disorder, a treatment for erection problems after prostate cancer surgery and studies on sexual function related to diabetes, depression and benign enlargement of the prostate as men age.
In my opinion, using "often" is an exaggeration. Especially considering most major medical tests happen in major cities. Plus Fox Chase - out of thousands of medical firms. You know gays are excluded from giving blood. Is the Red Cross prejudiced too? Seems like this is being over blown.

Reason: proper nouns deserve'spect
It's a policy by the federal government. The good news is that it may be changing.
My dad got Hep C from a blood transfusion. I understand the reason behind the fed policy. Our blood supply needs to be 100% safe. If the policy changes and our blood supply is 100% safe, then thumbs up.
The gay community has made strides to separate themselves by culture and class to have "their own" ...
why would gays be specifically targeted for medical studies? Especially when they're not directed toward them?
You can't have it both ways! You're a minority or you're a majority!

I agree. There is nothing physically different between a homosexual and heterosexual's physical makeup so there is no point in doing separate studies for gays and straights.
Considering the higher incidents of AIDS among homosexual men, this may be premature...
