Everyone does not get the same care at the VA... I cannot see an eye doctor at the VA....My VA benefits do not cover it.... At one time it did but due to budget cuts a lot of us were cut off on some of our benefits...
I have friends that were not even allowed to sign up that served the same time I did, all due to budget cuts... One of them did get a letter a couple of weeks a go telling him to try again...
What the government promises you it can take away...
That's true of private industry too.
Lot's of folks have company paid retiree medical as part of their benefits. What those folks don't know if that even if you've put in 20, 30 or 40 years or more with your company. When the time comes for you to retire, companies are NOT required to actually provide the retiree health care they promised you when they recruited you. Companies can drop that at any time and leave you without it - even though such benefits may have been part of the reason you originally chose to work for that company.

If you look I took that part out because I went to the VA website and it has changed....I had tried to do the same thing years ago and was told I couldn't do that. I also noticed you can now bring in an outside prescription and if the VA doctor approves it you can get if filled at the VA, that too is something new..
I had a test on my heart at the VA ( I already knew I have a problem) my VA doctor tells me I have a serious problem, but it took over a year to see a cardiologist.... The Houston VA is VERY overloaded...
I'm now at a different VA clinic
so I'll see how things go there...It is looking a little better but I have to drive 50 miles one way to get there.
I hope that it works out for you. I was not aware that the VA would fill outside scripts, but any drugs I do take have no copays thru the Advantage plan. There was one, Plavix, that I got thru VA at $8, where I would have $35 copay outside. I no longer have to take that. Within a week, I was able to get the bypass surgery in VA Tampa by one of the best Vascular Surgeons in the VA system, once it was determined that it was needed. But it was a couple of weeks to get the Cardiologist appointment from Primary referral to evaluation. Once the evaluation was done, less than 1 week to the operating room. As I said before, perhaps I am very lucky. I have had procedures in Miami, West Palm, Orlando and Tampa. All have been very, very crowded, but they do an amazing job of handling it. I don't know about other facilities, but in Fla, they are quite well managed.
what happens right away:
And, yes, some of the tax provisions that help pay for the plan do start well before 2014. A 10 percent levy on indoor tanning would begin IMMEDIATELY, and an escalating annual fee on drugmakers would begin in 2011. Individuals with flexible spending plans and health savings accounts -- tax-advantaged accounts linked to health care expenses -- would also be hit with certain exclusions and limits beginning in 2011.
democrats don't like tanners. isn't it fun when the government plays favorites?
The government will ALWAYS tell you what to spend your money on.....you just have to be smart enough to realize it
Trust me I am very aware of what I do and do not have to spend my money on. I don't want to add health insurance to the list. I have it through my job, and I'm lucky because I've got a secure job, but if I wanted to drop the insurance it's my business.
Yeah I have great insurance 200$ a month for the family with really low co-pays. I hate government interference in my life, and wish the government was much smaller than it has became.

Yeah, right. After throwing out the public option and the abortion clause, this bill is a piece of grabage.
The public option was the compromise and abortion is not a major issue in the real world of healthcare.
This was a major feat and the nation will look back at this debate in the years to come as a no brainer.
The Republican party will ultimately suffer because the history books will not treat the Republicans well in light of their decision to stonewall something that would benefit the masses in an attempt to gain politically.
This is the fundamental reason that the Repubs lost in 2008 and they will lose in 2012 - they are shortsighted and petty.
