The heart of the article Joe Hicks is talking about:

"Under the Democrats' health care bill, if a medical school wants to increase its chances of receiving many different kinds of grants and contracts from the federal government, it should have a demonstrated record of training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups."

http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/07/racial_preferences_in_the_demo_1.html\ (broken link)

What's unfair about that? A "demonstrated record of training"?

Non-starter.

Ridiculous. It's unfair to those who are considered part of the "Overrepresented Minority" group who aspire to become future Physicians. So it looks like Medical Schools will have even more of an incentive to admit those who are considered URM.

Many will not be allowed into the paln at all. No one on medicaid can choose the plan over medicvaid. the poor will be throan intomedicaid not teh paln. That requires states raising taxes if its to be the same as now. A affect that i also see coming is reduced giving to hospitals and medical facities by indivduals. They will change there giving and let governamnt take the slackup. Then I see drug company drastically dropping new drug research to raise profits form limited set pricing by government.

If the med schools will just be sure to train a mix of qualified students regardless of their race creed color, they'll be fine.

Non-story.

Unless the desired 'mix' doesn't occur naturally and has to be attained by a selective process.

More facts? America elected BO president because they wanted change. Facts no longer matter or else why would they have voted the way they did?

I wouldn't mind if they were tested and only smart minorities got it first.

This is just going to lead to bigger and bigger dropout rates.

Hey, it's not that big of a deal ... the GP's these days are just prescription dispensers for the pharmaceutical industry anyway. All you need is lousy handwriting, complete disdain for the hippocratic oath, and the ability to pretend that you care more about your patients than you do about how fast their insurance company pays the bills.

Just about anyone should be able to pull that off with 6 years of training

This is what is taught in the first 4 years:

1) Please fill out this form, and attach your insurance card .. the Doctor's NP with be with you shortly

2) When is the last time you had a Tetanus Shot? ... OK, drop your trousers

3) Oh my, your Cholesterol is way to high --- here, take this three times a day for the rest of your life

4) Well, your blood pressure isn't ideal ... let's try taking this 4 times a day. We'll check it again next month

5) Are you ready for your flu shot?

6) Been feeling depressed? Here ... take 1 in the morning, and 1 before bed, and you won't remember how depressed you are

7) No, no, there is nothing in the literature that indicates those symptoms are an adverse reaction to the any of the 7 medications you're taking. Yes, I'm sure. It's probably just a coincidence. But, here ... take this twice a day ... it should help.

Having worked for the fed, lived in the DC area my whole life, affirmative action has been very very active in fed hiring under both dems and republicans. So it doesn't surprise me one single bit. A matter of fact I was waiting for threads to start pertaining to this subject and I've even mentioned it several months ago.
