(Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc will cut food prices and mount a new ad campaign over the next six weeks, a threat to other U.S. grocers that sent an industry shares index down more than 2 percent on Friday.

A Morgan Stanley analyst first reported the world's largest retailer's plan, calling it a major setback for other U.S. grocers, and the company confirmed the promotions in an email.

Walmart is a very un-American company. People that defend their vulture like practices because they can buy things there cheap, are penny wise and dollar foolish. In the long run we are suffering due to Walmart and stores like them. I shopped at The Container Store in NYC the other day and was so pleased to be able to purchase merchandise manufactured in the USA and in places like New Zealand that abide by Fair Trade agreements.

Oh please sickofnyc. Are you really sick of NYC? Just curious
Anywayz.....I bet you any DOLLAR, that if there were a Walmart in NYC, you would shop there.

Why spend $5 for Glaad bags, when you can get it for $4 at Walmart?
The Container Store is the biggest rip off. Talk about Un-American!
It crazy the money they charge for PLASTIC. I'll go to Walmart instead and save 50% off similiar plastic thank you.

Yep; gripe about greed one minute then about competition the next minute.Greed is good when you profit from it or effects you in a good way it seems.

That would be a sucker's bet on your part. I do not buy crap from China and I have emailed Walmart numerous times and told them what I think about their selling the USA up the river to China. The name Walmart is synonymous to Benedict Arnold of the consumer world as far as I'm concerned. You'd best bark up another tree if you're a gambling man.

BTW..I buy plastics seldom and when I do, they are PEVA or EVA and I don't know, nor do I care If Walmart sells the stuff. Screw em! You are feeding the beast, I refuse to.

rep to you.

If people boycotted Walmart and stores that follow the same practices, the Chinese mercenay SOB's would have no choice but reevaluate their currency on a legit and fair level. They are cheating us blind and Walmart is an accomplice. China is practicing "Protectionism" on an obscene scale and we are cutting our own throats.

Walmart has been getting rid of other brands in their grocery stores for a while now. It's unsettling to walk into one these days and see nothing but "Great Value" products.

Guys above, if you live in a little town there really isnt a choice, it's Walmart or a wannabe Walmart. They all have the same business plan.

I used to live in a little town.. I mean VERY little (look up Esteline SD) I would drive to Sioux Falls for groceries instead. Wal Mart prices may seem cheap, but the quality is HORRIBLE

And for those that think you are getting the same product because Wal Mart carries some of the same brands- trust me, you are not. Those brands are specifically made for Wal Mart and parts (or ingredients if food) are of lesser quality. I wouldn't let my worst enemy get food from there. Not shopping there anymore has been the best thing my husband and I have done

All I know is Walmart started to offer 4 dollar prescriptions and the other stores followed suit. Maybe this will be the same way. They sell the same merchandise as other stores at the lowest price. As long as they do that I will shop there.
