Ban on smoking at parks, beaches moves forward
There is one reason given that I find very reasonable, the threat of fire in state parks. But other than that, no. I wonder if this no smoking ban will include pipes or joints? Will it be enforced against illegal aliens? Will state police arrest the Governator when he lights up a stogie? Will police enforce the law if actors light up while filming a scene for a movie at the beach or state park? and if so, will the actor scream, "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM!?" at the cops? And how much longer before the ban is extended into your private homes? Before you say never, remember, there was a time when people said they'd never ban smoking in bars or places outdoors or even within your own vehicle.

Don't forget the litter. For some reason when people smoke outside the world is their ashtray.

If the reason for the ban is littering then why don't they ban eating and drinking on the beaches and state parks? Beaches are littered with cans, plastic cups, plastic knives and forks, paper, and plastic shopping bags among other things. None of those items are banned and yet they are also forms of littering.

True that.

Tell you what, issue a state or federal ban on cigarette filters or issue an order that cigarette filters be made from biodegradable materials. At one time, cigarette filters were made from cork. If no fiberglass filter then no pollution or danger to animals. I could also get more people to quit smoking or get them to die quicker and wouldn't that be nice (sarcasm).

So fresh air is your reason. Are you going to find a way to ban dead and rotting fish or funky smelling algea from the beach? How about banning those nasty smelling trashcans filled with people's left overs and seagull droppings? Going to ban that? Some homeless have a stink that even a dip in the ocean can't wash off, BAN THE HOMELESS! Suntan lotion smell turns my stomach. Ban suntan lotion from the beach cause I want fresh air.

As a non smoker I don't really care. I hate seeing young people, friends of my kids, picking up this nasty, unhealthy habit but for some reason people still thing smoking is "cool" when they are young and stupid. I'm happy with the CA ban as is, but I'm not going to cry for smokers.

Second-hand smoke is toxic and annoying. I have mixed feelings about the ban, but as a nonsmoker, I'm fine with it.

So's the exhaust of motor vehicles so let's ban them. The smell of the interior of new cars is toxic, so let's ban new cars. I don't like the smell of Axe body spray,...I want a law banning them. I don't like the smell of the unwashed,...I want a law banning them. I don't like the smell of anchovies so let's get a law to ban them from pizzas. I don't like the smell of sardines so let's get a law to ban them. I don't like the way that person looks so let's get a law to ban him.
