I wouldn't say that.

I have had a few rough medical patches in my life, and 2 deadly ones; and I am against this Obamacare totally.

I guess it depends on your idea of seriously ill as well. For me, it was 2 defining moments. First when I had a stillborn, bled out and coded twice before they were able to stabilize me and repair the damage. The second was a 46 day hospital stay (14 days in ICU alone) when I had pneumonia, kidney failure, and sepsis. I had no insurance on either occasion, but worked with the Dr.'s and hospitals to reduce the inital bill, then make payments. It helped that we had sat aside money each month for an "oh s**t" fund for things like that, if they should happen.

A $2,900 deductible/yearly
A $5,900 max out of pocket/yearly
Only 2 $40 office visits yearly, after that, you pay full price on your own
no maternity coverage
$100 +40% ER co-pay but only after max yearly deductible is met
$10 generic RX's, no brand name coverage at ALL

That is the s**ttiest plan I have EVER seen, especially for this area.

I go see my GP every month, I pay a "cash only" reduced office visit rate of $40/visit (standard is $65), so this is actually MORE of a cost for me, since I pay $40 already, but now I get to pay $52/month as well?! No maternity coverage is moot for me (hysterectomy last year and all), but does that also include ALL OB/GYN services, or just labor and delivery? No, brand name coverage at all?! My DD's ADHD meds have no generic, and they are $147/month, but we have a RX plan (created by the drug companies) which drops it down to $60/month. One of my daily meds is $5.79/month before any discounts, so with this program, I would either not claim that med, or pay MORE for it!?

Sorry, but that is the worst one I have seen so far.

I would rather slug along w/o insurance currently, and save the premium money monthly, than pay for a plan that is that worthless.

Is it only important that those with more $$$ have better access to medical care?

ETA: Did you stop paying the IRS because you simply felt like it?
Ok, first off you are talking apples and oranges.

NO ONE, and I repeat NO ONE needs "affordable" health INSURANCE; we deserve affordable health CARE. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Why is it that my Dr.'s office is cheaper for people w/o insurance, and opt for cash only care? Why is it that hospitals are willing to work with cash only patients quicker than insurance covered ones, and generally bill less when you go to negotiate with them over the bill, and set up payments?

Yes, something should have been done, but NOT this mess they did. Regulation and reform would have been much better than throwing it up in the air and seeing how the pieces landed.

Put into words what the biggest problem is. Insurance companies exist to deny claims, otherwise they'd go out of business. For health care to work, we can't have insurance companies. Especially when all Americans must purchase health care from them and Obamacare doesn't contain provisions for health insurance premium stability--meaning rates can rise with no recourse.
