Very interesting.
A Brit that emigrates to america.
Let me give you my experience of the equivalent of the NHS here in Europe.
My father, 73, developed problems breathing.
As a senior citizen my father, who paid tax all his working life, is entitled to FREE healthcare.
My father when to his local doctor for tests : free tests.
He was referred to the hospital and was seen by a thoraic consultant for FREE.
My father was diagnosed with a leaking heart vessel.
My father was operated upon and had a triple by-pass for FREE by a cardiac surgeon.
He was in hospital for two weeks, in all.
Free.
No charge.
His followup treatment means that he is waferin for the rest of his life.
He received his Waferin medication for FREE, and both he and my mother can live out the rest of their lives safe in the knowledge that the taxes they paid all their lives ensures FREE and PROFESSIONAL healthcare without any worries about having to PAY for these services.
God Bless Europe.
FWIW, it's warfarin. And guess who you have to thank for warfarin? Yup, that's right, the US. A farmer in Wisconsin first discovered the effects of spoiled sweet clover and the effects it had on blood thinning in bovines.
And secondly, there is nothing FREE about the medical care your father received. He paid taxes his entire working life for your government to afford that entitlement.
God Bless the USA , helping people all over the world through our innovation and ingenuity.
Still, most posts off topic.
But, as long as the theme is WW2....believe it or not, American history champs, America did not fight Soviet communism in Europe. Stalin was an American ally (google Malta Conference) in defeating Nazi Germany. The method to defeat Germany included rolling thru France and Italy. As the war ended all allies remained as occupational forces in the areas they entered Germany. British in North Germany, Americans in South Germany, Soviets in East Germany (including Berlin). All participating nations suffered terribly, but what is seldom heard is that the Russians suffered the most casualties in WW2.
But I still don't know what the current health care debate has to do with WW2.
Maybe to stand upon the assumption that Americans are the superior race?
FDR also appointed people who were soviet spies to the Manhattan Project. He had good friends who were communists. He was quite soft on the communists.
I know we have a Constitution that affirms our Creator endowed rights. I know our government has abused them and now claims to be the grantor of rights.
Personally I am not willing to trade security, health or national, for my freedom and liberty. YMMV
The 'creator endowed rights' is too absurd.
If sick people that don't have insurance get medical treatment doesn't bother me, how about you?
If you're a christian, I'm glad I'm an atheist.
234 years is not a long time in history and already you're tearing yourselves apart.
Seeing as Europe is a continent, yes it has been around for millions of years. However it's history hasn't been sunshine, lollipops, and pretty flowers.
Plenty of infighting amongst the tribes, wouldn't you agree?
And now, those eastern tribes will eventually strong arm all of you.

Also, a few Nazi's to develop America's rocket program. The seized Nazi scientists and technicians had their paperwork 'adjusted' by American authorities. I saw this on a program on a West German TV station.

Yeah, though Truman had more to do with that than FDR. Truman was much tougher on communism and didn't mind employing former Nazis to help in the fight. Kind of ironic, because Patton wanted to use the captured German soldiers to fight the USSR.

And that's why America recently approved health care reform?
Let Europe laugh at us and our President. See who bails them out the next time they have a war they start.
We will. We just can't help ourselves - getting involved in everyone's business
