I shouldn't have been so absolute with that statement. But, for instance, two municipalities, that I know of, in this county have minimum square footage requirements. I don't remember the number, because I don't live there any more, but it was over 1200 sf, IIRC. To me, that's way too big. I know it's not for everyone, but we should have the choice to 'buy small.' Now, there are quite a number of older homes (built in the 20's through 50's) around that are small. Most are well-kept, too. I'd take one of those any day over all the McMansions you could give me.

As for the couple with two teens who are cramped in 5000 sf... that's absolutely ridiculous and there is no excuse. Don't get me wrong, I do believe in freedom, but there is a point that it becomes just silliness. I recall, during my childhood, my aunt and uncle raising their three kids in what I would estimate to be perhaps 600 to 800 sf. And they were fine. We used to visit them all the time. It was a very cozy home and some of my best memories are of that place. My how times change.

It will only last as long as it takes to print it down. And then you want something that will hold ist value as the currency goes ballistic. We've had a good run with the dollar but unless we make changes now it I too late and we will have a different currency.

Why is this a surprise? The econ0my is bad and home sales suffer. That and the fact tht people are saving.
