CNSNews.com - Obama Transportation Secretary: ‘This Is the End of Favoring Motorized Transportation at the Expense of Non-Motorized’ (http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/63290 - broken link)
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has announced that federal transportation policies will no longer favor “motorized” transportation, such as cars and trucks, over “non-motorized” transportation, such as walking and bicycling.
“Some in the highway-supporters motorist groups have been concerned by your livability initiative,” said the moderator at the National Press Club event. “Is this an effort to make driving more torturous and to coerce people out of their cars?”
“It is a way to coerce people out of their cars,” said LaHood.
The moderator later asked: “Some conservative groups are wary of the livable communities program, saying it's an example of government intrusion into people's lives. How do you respond?”
“About everything we do around here is government intrusion in people's lives,” said LaHood. “So have at it.”

What we need is a bureau of bovine and equine transportation, together with a bureau of bovine and equine scatology to deal with the by-products of non-motorized transportation.

No, that won't work. PeTA doesn't like having animals used as beast of burden or being abused (their definition of abuse seems to get lower and lower). They'd prefer we ride bicycles made with recycled metal and recycled rubber. They'd also prefer we oil our bicycle chain with vegetable oil. No leather seats nor any leather on the handle bars. No plastic either unless it's made with biodegradable material. No rubber insulation in the handbrake or gear shift cables. In fact, no gears and no hand brakes. Just one gear and peddle brakes. No plastic reflectors. Use recycled metal for reflectors and a plastic like material made from corn byproducts. No paint on the bicycle. Too much toxic material in bicycle paint. Let mother nature recover her metal naturally through rust.

I'm waiting to see the "wheels of commerce" function with all the goods needed for society transported by coerced bicycle transport.
Of course, the power elite in D.C. won't be subject to these regulations, any more than they've exempted themselves from the regs in their latest work of legislation.

Remember those triangle orange flags mounted on bicycles to help drivers see that there's a bicycle coming out from between parked cars? For Obama, it would be an American flag on the pole and his secret service agents jogging along side in their dark suits. Hillary would be riding wearing one of her pants suits.
