PA's can fill in the gaps. Nurse practitioners can assume more responsiblity. Pharmacists can expand their role.
All sorts of ways the quanitity of health care can be expanded.
Of course the "quantity" of healthcare providers can be increased.
Just add more people with less training. That is pretty easy. Allow people to enter med school from high school with only a high school diploma or GED (no entrance requirements and no MCAT exam necessary). Make med school two years instead of four, and all residencies just one year (instead of up to 8 for neurosurgery). To celebrate, you will be the first patient treated in the new system!
There you have it. More providers! With only three years of post high school education, most would be thrilled to make $120K per year. Everyone will be happy and the "healthcare problem" is solved!
Okay. I see 30 patients per day with 10-15 procedures. I take 15 minutes per patient and work with no lunch break. Patients are scheduled from 8-4. I stay until 7 to get my paper work done and begin rounds at 6 am.
Just how am I going to work harder?
If I drop all my medicare patients, I have more slots for regular insurance patients. I can see fewer patients, work less hard, and make more money. That is what I am going to do. I guess Obama can figure out what he wants to do with all the medicare patients, as apparently that is his job, not mine.
I'd say Padcrasher just took a big kick to the groin with this post.
Thank you for injecting hands-on, experienced logic into this thread. I highly doubt Pad, or any of the other naysayers, have anything but ill-informed rhetoric to rebut your argument.
I live three doors down from Cranio-facial Surgeon. His wife drives a 7 Series BMW, the have a 5000 square foot brand new Mediteranian style house. In an exlusive neighboorhood. They own a medical office building and a home in the Cayman Islands.
I just wonder how they will make after Obamacare kicks in?
Did anybody see the movie The Jerk with Steve Martin where this Texan in a cowboy hat comes in a starts crying because the leather seats on his Lear jet were starting to dry out and crack and he didn't have the money for repairs?
I can see it now, the closed Golf Courses, deserted Country Clubs, lines of unemployed Trophy Wives. The horror
All the talk, that for decades now, the democrats accused the nasty republicans of going after their Medicare, and here the democrats go, cutting the heart out of the program. I think even my father will snap out of his unwavering loyalty to the democratic party now.
When I told my father, this time last year, that 0bama was going to cut the Medicare reimbursement rate, and doctors and pharmacies would start refusing to take on Medicare patients, he looked shocked, and thought it was an impossible idea. We are throwing an 80th birthday party for him, soon, and I don't know what is in store for him.
Damn those democrats, they never actually try to fix anything, they just toss money at it with give-aways or use the crisis they caused to demand more taxes and create a new government program, with more control over us. Anyone who still supports democrats now is a closet Marxist, or an ignorant fool.
You may want to let your father know, it is the Dems who have been preventing the CMS cuts from the beginning. They have succeeded in doing that numerous times, with the help of some GOP. However, now the GOP is blocking that, for a few days. It will not affect Doctor reimbursements, but they are nervous about the future of it, particularly if the GOP continues to obstruct everything. Getting some info on what is happening with that issue, could be helpful to you. I don't think feeding you father false information will be helpful to him.

Aside from everything else, you are completely SEXIST. This is the second time I believe you posted that same rhetoric about the 'Trophy Wives'. Why do you ASSume all physicians are golf loving males?? There are MANY female physicians too. In fact, many of the male doctors I know are married to female doctors!!!!

I am very opposed to the passage of this bill but statements like this do more to hurt our position than any' bleeding heart liberal' can
Suuny Days...please study up on all this
The low income will cheer it.....the seniors won't pay fines
Read up, middle income people are struggling week to week to make ends meet now, record foreclosures show you that.
Ok, let me add the middle income folks to your wish list.
So now, I changed it to meet your approval.
They are still going to take food right out of peoples mouth.
So, to make it easy for you, people are barely making pay check to pay check and now they have to take money out of what little they have left to be forced to buy something they cannot afford.
The low income people will cheer it?
Wow, so then you are saying this is just another handout that those of us who pay for our HC will have to pay for? That is redistributing wealth then correct?
We are getting screwed again by the socialist?
According to you then this is stealing from the successful hard working people and handing it to low income people?
Either way someone is getting screwed and many will have to choose between food and HC.

Of course you get a lunch break, silly. That's when the Phamaceutical Reps bring you lunch and try to get you to push their drugs.
