The Internet is far too easy to manipulate. Enforcement of a sales tax would be nearly impossible. Anyone with the slightest knowledge about computers and the Web would be able to make tax-free purchases through their phony tax-free locations from businesses with phony overseas addresses.

Otherwise, I'd say a very low sales tax, only on non-essentials (exemptions for food, for instance), would be a good idea. It's just not enforceable and would unfairly punish honest transactions.

I think it is ridiculous about some of the taxes I hear about. Soda tax, gas tax for every mile and sales tax for internet stuff. I think that the government is getting ridiculous with all this. Both republicans and democrats gave up caring about the people. Our politicians fail to file for taxes but yet if any of us did it, we would have our ass dragged to jail.

F**k this s**t. I dont care if swearing shows my age. I am young but I am sick of this. I wrote 5 page (front and back, college ruled paper, baby!) letter to Obama about this. I know they dont listen. My letter will probably be thrown in the trash with all the other ones.

I am sick of it. I am not against spending if it is for USEFUL and NECESSARY things by our government. But this is getting out of hand. Bush started it and Obama continues it. Like the rest of them. My generation is going to put up with the stupid and ignorant mistakes of the older generation.

Personally, I think a national tax would give legislators another cover for spending.
I don't watch Beck all that often, but he proposed the same idea of a VAT that would go only to paying down the debt. The problem is, that doesn't prevent congress from further spending increases. It would be like trying to fill a sieve with water as it continually pours out the holes in the bottom.

If they want to enact a VAT, they better institute REAL PAYGO with real accounting figures to support it, not some bogus garbage-in/garbage-out CBO estimations that everyone knows is grossly underestimating expenditures. Make every single expenditure (including military) accountable to PAYGO. Don't have the cash? Better make cuts somewhere else then. Nothing should be exempt without say 7/8ths majority vote (in case of national emergency).

We don't pay nearly enough in taxes, and need to pay more.
The government will gladly accept your donation toward paying off the national debt. No need to wait to be taxed if you feel so strongly about it.

.
No, I'd be more inclined to be pissed off that the Democrat solution to the debt is taxes instead of curtailing their spend-crazy ways.

I think the funds from any national sales tax or VAT would be used as a slush fund for more "special interest" spending.

One only has to look as far as the $500 Billion taken from the Medicare Trust Fund in Obama's HC take over law to see what happens to funding that is "reserved" for a single purpose.

Nope, the government cannot be trusted to keep their dirty mitts off of any designated money.

People on ebay with ebay / licensed stores in my state have to collect a tax from me. An individual in my state selling an apron doesn't have to collect sales tax. I hate the idea of a national sales tax on the internet. It would add insult to injury. At one point, yard sales/flea market week enders were almost made to collect tax. That's a nightmare. And totally asenine. You need a tx #, and fees, and all that. John Q has a hard enough time as it is.

Absolutely not. I despise taxes as it is. Why in the world would I support another? The only way I would support a National Sales Tax (aka Fair Tax) is if the 16th Amendment was repealed with no way to reinstate it.

Remember, the Social Security Trust Fund was supposed to be inviolate, the money therein could NOT be used for ANYTHING other than Social Security payments.
But, Congress found a way to tap into it!
NO to ANY additional taxes!
In fact, we are in dire need of a balanced budget amendment!
