Is anyone really surprised by this and who really cares. I find it comical that this thread is 3 pages long. What a waste of reading time.

I think he is blessed, has a great career. Loving partner and great kids. Oh, yeah and he's rich! So I think he's doing pretty well for himself

I'm gay and I don't necessarily consider "homo" to be a slur. It's just short for homosexual. If "hetero" isn't a slur for heterosexuals, then I don't understand why "homo" would be a slur for homosexuals.

I would guess it depends on how either is used. It's more difficult in a forum such as this, but if you can hear the one doing the talking, you can usually tell whether the speaker is using it as a slur. But even here, it's fairly easy to pick up on when someone is using that because they know they wouldn't get away with using a more obvious term.

We may have grown up in different times and places. I'm a 56-year-old heterosexual, and I've been hearing people use "homo" as a slur probably since I was ten or so.

If you haven't heard it that way, I'm glad to know that. In the context in which I objected to it, though, I have no doubt that it was intended as a slur (or a slur with "deniability").

Sweetie, I think we all know that silas does indeed get kicks out of saying that word because he's homophobic & is clearly intending it to be a slur, yet he'll turn it around & act innocent by saying "What? People use hetero, why can't I use homo?" He's transparent to say the least.
