KevK - I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with you that Phelps and Westboro "are entitled to freedom of speech".
When Westboro picketed the funerals of high school kids killed in a school bus accident in my city (think of what a despicable protest that was), the Mayor arranged for city buses to block them from the view of the funeral services. Between that and the Freedom Riders, Westboro didn't disrupt the funerals. IIRC they tried suing the city, but that went nowhere.
Westboro counts on goading people into action, then suing them (somewhat successfully). Typical twisted liberal lawyer stuff, perverting the system.
Sure, they have the right to free speech. They also have the right to get their butts kicked. I would look away if I saw one of their group get their just rewards. To dig deeper during an already difficult & horrendous time for these families & friends of these soldiers is beyond reprehensible. These people have no soul...ironic, hey?
I hate these people not just because of their foul hatred of gays but also their classless way of getting their message across. I don't understand how those people haven't been pounded into the ground during one of their picketings.
I am a Christian and I really, really do try to follow my Lord's teachings. But if I said the things that come to my mind when I read about these scum and especially the idea that a grieving father would be forced to pay for their foul and filthy behavior toward his dead son I would be banned for life from these boards....and probably put on a watch list somewhere.
One of my proudest moments as a Wisconsin native was when a policeman in a small town, where these filth were picketing at a fallen soldier's funeral, walked up and punched the guy square in the jaw. No arrest was made because he WAS the police in that town and when they tried to find wittnesses when the filth complained they found that everyone present just happened to be looking in a different direction when it happened.
The messages from Westboro Baptist Church are sickening, but I think that free speech is more important than protecting the feelings of those who are offended by their messages. If the protesters are in a public place and they're not putting the public in danger, I think they have a right to be there and say whatever they want.
We use to have laws of sedition and to protest a soldier who died in combat fighting for freedm is not a right , neither is yelling fire in a theatre .
I don't know who this soldier was or why the nuts pisketed .

Isn't it the libs who espouse the picketing of dead soldiers' funerals?
Fred Phelps is nothing remotely close to a liberal and he would gladly tell you you will burn in hell at the suggestion. He is truly a wart on the A$$ of society. Only the far right would do this... and Fred is FAR right. Why can't their be a fault in KS that would swallow these scum?
