Celebrate! The nuclear arms treaty brings us that much closer to parity.

It would be better if nuclear weapons were never invented in the first place. We have some short sighted scientists to thank for not realizing the long term impact of their work.

Militias served their purpose during the American Revolution and beyond, that is no longer the case. We don't need independent radical citicizens groups that happen to have guns claiming they are a defense militia.
The Whiskey Rebellion? But the militia system continued until after 1900. You're incorrect.

Militias were only found incapable when we began playing world's policeman and meddling with other countries' affairs and embarked on an imperialist agenda. It's no coincidence, the time period we ended the militia system. Militias are perfectly fine for defense.

Most militias these days appear to be operating on the structure of pure cult psychology rather than any honorable militia sense.

I agree. I would think that it takes a basic distrust of the government for anyone to buy into the notion that we need militias which automatically set them up to form cults with the "right" leader. We have a couple of militias around where I live and one is listed on the 'watch list' and the other is not.

Rachel Maddow is having a two hour special on the 19th at 9:00 on Timothy McVeigh and his militia activities including never before heard in public confession videos. The promo said it give us insight............

Should this really surprise anyone?

When they tell you they are going to do it to your face?
Yeah I guess in hind site it was predictable that the FBI would cook up this plot.

With 200 plus replies, it must have been mentioned that the only militia member with a political affiliation was a Democrat.

Conservative violence???????

OP has selective vision: OP ignores the bat **** crazy Democrat Congressman Grayson who lost it in a family restaurant (Perkins), allegedly dropping F-bombs and cursing ( that's a big f'n deal as it is not befitting of a Congressman; they WILL be fired come November: Grayson particulary). Recent brick attacks on GOP HQ windows. That time when SEIU beat the black crippled man, not to mention that other SEIU thug who bite the finger off that Tea Party member. Reid's egging of the Tea Party bus. Seattle WTO riots. Black Panther intimidation in Philly. Obama's famous, "if they bring a knife, you bring a gun." The church disruptions that occur in San Francisco. Black Caucus's race baiting. And inner city violence (Rudy Giuliani improved NYC).

It takes mistrust of government to maintain freedom. In most ways these militias are very tame and mild compared to the likes of Thomas Jefferson or, an actual early militia leader, Ethan Allen.

What watch list would that be?

BTW: McVeigh was not a member of a militia, the Michigan Militia wanted nothing to do with him because he was too radical (and racist).

On what basis do you say that? Do you have any actual experience with a militia?
