yeah over time these taxes keep building up don't they....well i can see where we do need some taxes, but other taxes aren't neccesary
As they keep expanding the role of government, so they also need to expand its taxes. If we scaled back its role dramatically, we could remove most of the taxes.
You know I am getting tired, extremely tired of giving basic civics lessons, but once again...
The U.S. is a representative democracy. We elect those among us to do what they think is best for the country. We don't govern by plebiscite, referendum, polls, emails received, or text messaging like the government is American Idol.
Further, only the deaf, dumb and blind missed the fact that candidate Obama campaigned on enacting comprehensive healthcare reform in virtually the same manner as was recently passed. And, remember, his election wasn't even close.
Now, in 2010 the American people will have the opportunity to elect or reelect their representatives as they deem fit. If they so choose, they can vote out every Congressman and half of the U.S. Senate. They can VOTE, for candidates dedicated to repealing the present law. That is the hallmark of a representative democracy.
As for the tyranny of the majority, the Framers of the Constitution well aware of the dangers of tyranny of the majority, as a result, they enacted the Bill of Rights to provide the for the fundamental individual rights of the citizens. So spare us the tyranny bs.
Tyranny is also a government coming and confiscating personal private property without the consent of the person. Taxes are just that. This is why I love my state's TABOR law. They cannot pass taxes without the consent of the people.
The Federal government passes taxes without blinking an eye. They pass programs that cost money and raise taxes to pay for it. The force individual states to bend to their will and mandate that the states pay for their decisions in Washington. So who really pays for all this, the respective governments? No, they produce NOTHING. But the sure do take and they take at will. You pay for it with confiscatory taxes. That is the coerced taking of personal private property and that is tyranny. The federal government, in particular, has shat upon the very Constitution that they purport to uphold and defend. They are not supposed to be a King and Parliament, but they sure are turning into one.

Hogwash. Unless you live in Pelosi's district or the state of Nevada, they're not representing you in the first place.
Yes they do. While originally they used to represent the states because the states put them into Congress, not the voters, but now they do indeed represent the nation. The whole nation may not vote for them, but that doesnt mean they dont represent everyone..

what a joke. If I recall Obama told the nation that "If it's not in line with what he has proposed, he's not going to consider it"

And this one of the reasons why we deperately need an Article 5, Constitutional Convention. We must repeal Article 17. The purpose of the Senate was not to be a "Super House" but that is what is has become since Article 17's passage.
