LOL in the entire history of the Civil War there was one major battle in Union territory, Gettysburg and the South got it's clock cleaned. The rest of the war was fought in the South as a mop up operation. The outcome was never in doubt only the duration.

Good for Virginia,
I'm glad that I live 1400 miles away from it.

The johnnies were one tough army, and they nearly pulled it off.
And I would remind everyone who are such strong democrats that the old south was the party of slavery and the old south was staunchly democrat.......

Hmmm. I guess I'm not going to listen to any conservatives who want to tell me I'm anti-American and unpatriotic.

Exaclty. History is history. To deny it or ignore it does not make it disappear.

If it is really about history and not about making a political point, why not call it Civil War History Month?

I find it insulting the way McDonnell is using the Civil War to try to boost his popularity. Insulting to the soldiers and insulting to the intelligence of modern-day Virginians. It insults the intelligence of Virginians to think that every single person living in Virginia shares the same political views about anything, let alone the Civil War. Even during the Civil War, not every Virginian felt the same way about it.

That's what Sherman thought when he marched through Georgia like a hot knife through butter. The women were tougher than the men -- uglier too.

The object of war is to destroy the enemy. The Union did that in spades.

By 1864 the tides had long turned from the year before, and your last sentence is very uncalled for.

Yes, but all it did was breed 100 years of resentment.
