The Confederates beat the North hands down until some mistakes at Gettysburg. The Confederates nearly won. The French in WWII came nowhere near winning and in fact didn't really try.
LOL in the entire history of the Civil War there was one major battle in Union territory, Gettysburg and the South got it's clock cleaned. The rest of the war was fought in the South as a mop up operation. The outcome was never in doubt only the duration.

Wondering which army had more combat deaths..the federals or the Confederates.
Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has quietly declared April 2010 Confederate History Month, bringing back a designation in Virginia that his two Democratic predecessors -- Mark Warner and Tim Kaine -- refused to do.
Collect southern muskets -- never fired, dropped once.
Obviously the product of a liberal public school left coast education...............
The johnnies were one tough army, and they nearly pulled it off.
And I would remind everyone who are such strong democrats that the old south was the party of slavery and the old south was staunchly democrat.......
so there
If it is really about history and not about making a political point, why not call it Civil War History Month?
I find it insulting the way McDonnell is using the Civil War to try to boost his popularity. Insulting to the soldiers and insulting to the intelligence of modern-day Virginians. It insults the intelligence of Virginians to think that every single person living in Virginia shares the same political views about anything, let alone the Civil War. Even during the Civil War, not every Virginian felt the same way about it.
That's what Sherman thought when he marched through Georgia like a hot knife through butter. The women were tougher than the men -- uglier too.
By 1864 the tides had long turned from the year before, and your last sentence is very uncalled for.

Yes, but all it did was breed 100 years of resentment.
