This all started over an issue at an Orono Elementary school. A ten year old child that dressed and identified as female (I do wonder about the home situation in this) using the girls room. It wasn't an issue, it was being "handled" by the school and the situation would have been resolved if the child hadn't been harrassed and the "Adult" in the situation hadn't filed a suit.
I don't have first hand knowledge here though I was told by an individual there that the child was actually born "intersexed" and will be having corrective procedures when "she" is old enough. Thus the school was trying to help her fit in before the gender correction. If that is the case, I understand a bit better.
I wonder why they wouldn't have had "corrective procedures" done when she was a baby, seems as though there would have been no transition period? Anyhow, I am very ignorant on this subject, don't know much of the in's and out's as far as timelines go...

Well, it seems some have taken it and run with it as an excuse for an agenda.
And just who in the hek came up with this brillant new rule. I am beyond speechless at this point, and do not think that this is a good idea, in any way possible, do any of you! Utter nonsense, stupidity, and someone is surely not thinking with their right head.
There were actually two complaints filed:
First by the parents of the transgendered student, after the school's initial response to stalking and harassment from another student was to merely direct the transgendered student to use a staff restroom instead--arguing essentially that separate is not equal.
The second complaint was filed by the legal guardian of the student who was doing the stalking and harassing. The school eventually expelled the student, after his harassment went so far as entering the girl's restroom, and the guardian argued that if a transgendered student could go in whatever restroom they chose, so could any other student. So it was actually theparent who was arguing for gender-neutral restrooms, not the HRC.
The human rights commission agreed that the transgendered student's rights had been violated, because as we all know, separate is indeed not equal. And they struck down the argument that the stalker student's rights were violated, since that student was both male in both anatomy and gender identity.
So in fact, the HRC ruled that no, schools don't have to provide gender neutral restrooms. At most they merely have to recognize gender-identity rather than merely anatomical gender. This is just another exaggeration by Fox news to incite hysteria and fear.
What the hek is in the drinking water in Maine, or should i say, what the hek they smoking in Maine, and it ain't tobacco.
