News: Strong Backing for Affirmative Action - Inside Higher Ed

The Obama administration has filed a brief with a federal appeals court offering strong backing to the University of Texas at Austin over its consideration of race and ethnicity in admissions decisions.

IMO, the Obama administration defending Affirmative Action just shows that they are not serious about bringing any real change to this society. Obama wants to go back to the era where race, gender, creed divides people.

This needs to go away. It is the biggest bunch of BS out there. Why should someone who is well qualified be turned down for admission or a job for that matter becasue of race? What happened to you get what you work for?

I have been looked over for jobs in Florida because I can not speak fluent Spanish.

Affirmative action is for losers.

If you're good enough you don't need it.

If you need it you ain't good enough.

It's a loser program and it's for losers.

I don't think it's necessary. We already have so much in place to allow low income people a way to pay for college and that's really all that needs to be done. Regardless of your income level if you meet the requirements you can attend college. Universities should also have some flexability in determining who, from the qualified applicant pool, they choose to admit. It doesn't have to be determined strictly by GPA or any one factor.

It's BS, toss it out. This isn't the 1960's anymore, we don't have segregated schools and blacks can attend college if they meet the requirements. There is no need for affirmative action, it actually contradicts the purpose for which it was created. If a company A has to hire X amount of minorities, you are essentially discriminating against any white male who has more knowledge/skill in that particular position.
