And I don't support the law. I'll obey the law in my own state, but I don't have to agree with any law anywhere.

What is it prompts you to demand "long jail terms" as opposed to "short jail terms" or "medium jail terms" or "probation"? It's sex-hatred, period. A typical American vice.
I'm curious...what is an appropriate 'age of consent'? I always figgered 17 was in the range, but any lower than that, especially when the "consent' is being given to a full adult (17 is borderline)...I mean ..what is it that you are saying here? That student/teacher sex at the high schol level is OK? That we should just blow it off as 'normal'? These are high school kids we are talking about here right? That , by definition, means they don't have the common sense that God gave a box of rocks. Having sex with adults? . Seems like a recipe for advocating bad choices. Whether you fugure in a religious equation in this issue or not, there has to be a moral standard of some sort. Teenagers wll flat run amok without clear guidlines, and turning a blind eye to under 18 high school kids having sex with their teachers is begging for trouble from the kids AND the teachers. The old' it's just sex' thing doesn't wash in this case.

It's not stupid....they are under the teacher's authority regardless of age and, at the very least, you could argue that they are incapable of consent.

In TX, the legal drop out age is not until the kid is 18 and in most districts (the law allows districts to adopt this policy if they choose) they cannot drop out mid-year, so we have kids who turn 18 during the school year and are required to finish out the year.

You feel that these kids who are legally required to submit to a person as an authority figure should also be permitted to "consent" to sex with that same authority figure? INSANE...

Well think of it this way If the right wing had there way all the teachers would be armed. That way the teachers could bugger the children at gun point.

In my area, we now have some teachers who are carrying a firearm.

Teachers have been seducing students for years, albeit not always sexually. How do ya think we wound up on the trail to socialism?

Oh please. That's pretty melodramatic

I love being seduced - but not necessarily the result.

It's fun even to watch seductive TV ads.

That doesn't mean I actually go out and buy the product.

I took it to heart what was taught me in High School Consumer Economics class - that the sale is in the sizzle, sell the sizzle, not the steak.

I have found that consuming large quantities of sizzle does not cause any appreciable weight gain.

The lies can be very enjoyable, while the truth hidden by it, poison.

The trick, is to enjoy and use the lie for what IT is worth.

I think it's absolutely GROSS to even think someone that's suppose to GUIDE our children in the right direction is actually TAKING ADVANTAGE of them. While kids are supposedly in a SAFE environment we NEVER know who is LURKING IN THE SHADOWS....

I really hope they are taking further steps in the application and hiring process of all POSSIBLE FUTURE EDUCATORS and that if an incident does occur that individual is NO LONGER ABLE TO APPLY FOR ANY EDUCATION OPENINGS anywhere in the country.

Legally, they are incapable of consent. This is what's called a legal fiction; of course, in reality, everyone knows they can and do consent, and most people know that in fact, that they can and do provoke some of those situations.

I haven't suggested that any of it be fully legal, but I would suggest that loss of a job and probation would be a more reasonable penalty than a jail term, in most cases.
